I'm wondering if the New Vaquero in .45 Colt can take a.45 ACP cylinder? I have a lot of .45 ACP, but the .45 Colt is fairly rare and expensive. Does anyone know if that's possible? Thanks!

well I have a New Vaquero Birdshead that came in 45acp and I think Ruger made a combo gun 45lc / 45 acp but I don't think Ruger will fit one to your gun, you would probably have to find a gunsmith to do that

Yes but,... It has to be a New Vaquero (mid-sized framed) cylinder NOT a Blackhawk (large-sized framed) cylinder. As Hawk-in-Wi said there have been several models of NVs made in 45 ACP either as combos or as ACP only chambering, but there are a lot more Blackhawk sized combos out there and if you found one for sale you would need to be careful that you got one that would fit a NV frame window.
Good luck!

There are the New Model Flat Top Convertibles too. They are the smaller frame size.

FYI, All Vaqueros are 'New Model' revolvers. There is the original Vaquero (large frame) and the New Vaquero (medium frame) . Just an FYI.

And as above, there are also NM medium frame flattops in .357/9mm, .44 Special, and .45 Colt/.45 ACP . The cylinders are the same as the New Vaqueros, so they are an option as well.

this is more of a question than a answer to the OP's question but since there are a lot more 44 specials out in the market how hard would it be to take a 44 special and have it bored to 45 ACP or could it even be done ?

My .45ACP Blackhawk is one of my favorite shooters. So it is definitely worth the effort to find a cylinder. Or maybe buy another convertible. Especially if the cylinder worked in both revolvers.

It shouldn't be hsrd to order one.
An entire gun or just a cylinder?
I think Ruger will want the gun in order to fit a cylinder for you. Not even sure they do that but won't take long to find out.
Good luck

I'm still looking for a 45 A cylinder for my OM Blackhawk. "Just saying?"
I saw this one Gunbroker , seller says he thinks it's a NM but I'm not so sure about that , i think his price is high but you might think otherwise

Cool! Thanks!
I get home, I'll try to glean the information on which cylinder crosses over between the NM and OM. One fits the other but not the other way?

You won't regret it. The bottom one is a New Model Blackhawk Flattop .45 Convertible

That looks like an old model cylinder because it has the clearance cut thru the chamber mouths for the firing pin (not needed on new model chambers).

If you find a new model cylinder, you want one from a large frame size, not one for the mid size frame like the New Vaquero or Blackhawk flattop.
