With some talk about Ruger factory muzzle brakes I decided to take a look of what I had. In all I found 18 brakes some in boxes and this don't count how many may be on guns that if I remember may be about 4 to 6 guns. Two were with the "INC" and I noticed two types of font in the non "INC" brakes. Yes some the roll marks were backwards from the others. Guess you can say as a collector there are a few variations. Here are some pics. Notice on the non "inc" how the first line "RUGER" lines up with the second line "CONN". I also think the letting may be a bit smaller on one than the other.

It's this kind of excellent detailed pics that help collectors determine minor variations that are needed to work on a "complete" collection. THis is history that we all need to preserve!
Once again Rick,, you have shown superior examples of fine collectables!

Satcom, The U.S. Mark 1 with larger serial numbers I just purchased from Gunbroker was produced around 1967 and was part of the 6th contract but most likely part of the smaller shipments of that contract to the government. You don't see many of those guns in that serial number range in civilian hands. Like in the past when the armed forces were finished with these wepons most were refurbished and sold to civilians. But after the assination of President Kennedy when the guns were no longer needed they were destroyed. About 10 are known in collections in the large serial number range 319447 to 331744. I currently have two in that range. The muzzle brake with the "INC" would go with this latest gun I bought. Those "INC" brakes were produced in the late 1960's to early 1970's. Hope this information helps answer your question.

Hey Ty, Peg and I will see ya in Vegas at the shot show. And I always try to educate our Forum members. Your right we need to preserve this history and pass it on.

RPM,

Great information! Having read all the books including Chet's and Don's I knew about that variation but did not know how how "rare" they are! Sometimes it takes awhile for me to put 2&2 together. So much information here on the RF.

I am very happy just to have a factory reblue US T-678 #77100, from the first contract, that has a non inc brake on it, that came seperately from B. Hamm.

 On the bottom of page 151 "Only six known" Chet's comment on the large serial numbered US marked T-678, back in 1993.

Are any US T-514's verified factory been found?

Thanks again.

Couple years ago I found 320037 and did pay dearly for it. At that time Chad indicated 8 known and this one made 9 known. The recently found 327505 would make 10 known. I have all the contracts in my collection and did display them at Tulsa in 2011 since I have added a couple to make it more complete such as a KMK512N and a 1st contract in the 150000 range and those are extreemly rare. When I did my research for my display Chad had 3 T514's listed: serial numbers 76634,78252 and 78348. I called and got letters on those guns and the letters indicate that yes they were U.S. guns shipped to a government agency but do not list the barrel length or model number. "I tried but I could not get Ruger to indicate the barrel length". Without factory letter stating the barrel length I would say that those most likely were shipped as T678's and fitted with new barrels. That was common practice for those guns fitted with silencers and most were re- fitted with 4 3/4" or 6" barrels "those were the cheapest barrels" but remember won't letter as 4 3/4" or 6" because they left the factory as T678's.

Hey I think my US marked T514 serial number 76634 is genuine......still has the threads for the silencer....here are a few pics.....I have a letter on this one from Steve V around here somewhere.....RR

Well I went and found my letter that came with the gun.....specifically states it was shipped with a 5 1/4 barrel with the feature you mention (threads).....so we know one is RIGHT    RR.

Sure wish we still had an inside guy like Steve who realized the value of a STRONG collector base....

I have an early 6.75" MK1 Target with muzzle brake. I found a brake on GunBroker and I am waiting for it to arrive - right at $75 all in.
Attached are some pictures of the MK1 I bought along with it's muzzle brake.

I don't know if it's proper to ask here but I've always been interested in obtaining one. If someone might be willing to part with one, I'd be interested.

Hipshot,, all I can offer is to keep looking & asking. I've managed a couple,, over the decades,, but they pop up when you least expect them to.
SLeezebay,, other gun auction sites, WTB ads in Classifieds, all might allow you to find one.
