Ruger Mini 30

Not my 1st Ruger by any means, I have the SR22,LC9, and the SR40C. I am looking at my 1st Ruger rifle though. It's a 2001 -2003 (serial #196...) Mini 30. Wood stock, SS, looks to be in very good condition. He wants $650 for it which I thought to be a bit high. Anybody have an idea of what would be a reasonable value for this rifle?

If you are looking at spending that much, I would just buy new. Don't know how much the new tactical ones go for but they will have the much better barrel than a 2001-2003.

That a new price at Wal-Mart for a blued ranch rifle if that helps. He will get that much from someone if you pass though.

CDNN had the Tactical Mini-14's for $599, of course you need to add shipping, ffl dealer's fees, background check fees. Still, $650 does seem like a lot for a used Mini-30.

LGS sells a new in box stainless Mini 30 for $679... but prices can and do vary by region.

Thanks for the input all.I have researched the new 30's for price. Tacticals are a little more expensive. I do like the wood stock and the suppressor. I read somewhere that you can't put the suppressor on the newer models without modifying the barrel. Is that true? I guess I could get by with the synthetic stock if thats all I could find.Still would like a ballpark figure as to what the used rifle might be worth.

I would not go more than $475. There are a lot of improvements on the 58+ series.

Thanks............had a feeling about $500 would be the max. I do believe I'll just go with the new one for the difference in price and upgrades though. Problem is finding one with the wood stock. All I've seen is in synthetic.

Synthetic stocks are all Ruger offers on the Mini 30s these days.

If you are talking about a flash suppressor, the Tactical model comes threaded and with Ruger's own style FH attached.

What a shame. Old school I guess. Just looks so much better in wood IMO. Suppose I'll have to change with the times. Even the bulk of my handguns have a polymer frame. The tactical 30 in SS would work with the suppressor. Still a good looking rifle.

Got confused by an earlier post that said "all minis" were synthetic stock. 14's are A LOT more common and are a lot more commonly wooded.

Replacing the synthetic stock with wood is easy enough, and Ruger does offer all manner of "special editions", so they could turn out a '30 with wood or laminate.

I have seen a Mini 14 (.223) in 1 of our Walmarts here and my LGS also has a Mini 14 in wood but also a blued finish. Are the stocks interchangeable between the mini 14 and 30? If I could get the Mini 30 in SS, and add a suppressor that I saw on another post here and put it in a wood stock, I'd have just what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm just too picky, but if I'm going to invest $700 -$800+ in a rifle, I want it the way I want it.

True.... you can pick up a wood stock pretty easy... and I don't think the newer barrel will be that much trouble with an old stock.... maybe just a tad sanding but I suspect none.... In fact I have a few and might be willing to let one go.

I was just in one that had a Mini-14.
