Hi,

Just bought a new beautiful Mark III. The only thing that I am not going to like about it is the visibility of the front sight. Any recommendations about fixing that. I really would just prefer to have the front blade red but I don't see anything out there available on the web. I am considering buying a new front sight and painting it red. Any thoughts on this matter are appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Fred

New Mark III's come with a small clear plastic tube of varying color High-Viz inserts for the sights.

Did yours come with the inserts... since you say it is "new" ?

I replaced one of my MkIII's front sight with these HiViz sights. The green works great for me.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for the quick replies!

My gun is brand new though it may have been in the dealers inventory. It was built in late 2009. It did not come with any tube type sights.

I think the one that was suggested is going to fit the bill. Is there any trick to installing the one from Ruger?

Thanks so much!

Very simple. Just a matter of unscrewing your existing sight, degreasing the hole and screw and replacing it with the new sight. I used a drop of blue Loctite when I replaced mine.

Hi,

Glad to be a part of the forum. I am impressed with the fast and excellent responses already!

This is my first Ruger and I am thinking that it will not be my last. What a quality firearm!

I have already ordered the replacement sights from Ruger and am looking forward to installing them and shooting a couple hundred rounds! My near vision is not as good as it once was and I am certain these sights will really improve my accuracy.

Thanks again,

Fred

I recently ordered stick on bifocals for my shooting glasses. They are a magnified plastic "film" that can be positioned anywhere on lens. It really helped bring the front sight into focus. $8 for the pair and they can be removed/reused seemed like a good option for me. Google Optx 20/20 to see them.

...stick on bifocals...

Love those things. Use one (curved side up) on the upper half of the dominant eye lens, leave the non-dominant side blank. You'll have it just right when your head is hunched down a bit for sighting, and the other eye available for distant vision.

Hi Guys!

That is a great suggestion on the stick on lenses. I will get a set right away. I have safety glasses with near vision lenses at the bottom. They are great for reloading but the lense is too low for seeing the front sight. This should really tighten up my groupings!

Thanks!

Have a MK III Hunter with the Hi Viz sights, Not really a fan, They feel out a couple times, I am looking for Millet Sights. Anyone have any leeds on the old style Millets

One thing not mentioned. If the OP has a STANDARD model, it will not have the adjustable rear sight. Therefore it will not have the easliy unscrewed front sight. If it is a Standard model, it will have a pinned in front blade. Just paint it.

Hi,

Recieved the Hi Viz sights from Ruger and put them on the pistol. Also put the 20/20 lens on my shooting glasses. After a bit of adjusting the rear sight, shot all the center out of the target. Thanks again for all the great input!

Ruger should still sell them. I bought a set of standard target sights a while back from them and it was something like $12 shipped.
