I am looking at the purchase of a Ruger Model 77/22 Magnum rifle in full stainless with the Ruger skeletonized (boat paddle) stock. I am not sure of the actual asking price yet but I suspect it will be in the $450-500 range. Any thoughts on this rifle as far as it's rarity, accuracy and general desirability?

Any info appreciated. I thin this is a late 1990's rifle although I haven't confirmed the actual serial number to look it up. The condition would be excellent with 2 rotary magazines and no box. It sports a scope but a rather cheap one that I would replace.

Any help appreciated.

I have a 77/22 LR that shoots great. I watched a friend put 3 in same hole one day, 100 yds. Shot a tighter group than I did. This rifle shoots better than my 10/22 T. And target has an AO scope compared to a Weaver on 77/22. The only drawback to 22M is price and finding this ammo. You wont regret this purchase.

For that price you'd better buy it. For some reason and I dont know what it is but the boat paddle guns are going for big bucks and they are without a doubt the absolute UGLIEST guns that Mr. Ruger ever put out. I just dont get it.

If you can get it for that price range I'd say it's a pretty fair deal. Look at what the new ones go for now. I agree on them being ugly but...it is a better stock imo than Ruger is using now. It is more rigid and every one I've had or shot (centerfires) does better accuracy wise compared to the flimsy new style synthetic stock used now.

Excellant gun,I bought one last year at my favorite pawn shop out the door at about 320. dollars.really good deal, shoots right on

I got the price ..the dealer is letting me have it for $425 out the door. I cant pick it up til Saturday tho as he has to hold all firearms for a week so the local police can run a check but that is ok with me.

Any thoughts on a good scope for it..there is a 6-24x40 on it now and I think that is too much besides it is a cheap scope.

Smoking deal at $425. I'm a fan of the boat paddle stock, I like a rifle that is durable enough to hunt hard, with no worries about damaging it. I like the look, and have bought and sold a few empty boat paddles over the years, seem prices on the empties have appreciated a lot recently.

As far as a scope, I like the rimfire version from Burris, got one of the packs with a Fullfield II with the included rimfire scope, not sure if they still offer these as a package. Leupold scopes being offered at a few places on closeout if you don't want a rimfire scope, I think Natches still had a SS VX3 3x9 for $300 last I looked. Weaver also offers a nice rimfire scope.
