Any one know did Ruger change it's logo and remove the letter S off of it?
Was looking on Ebay and saw some medallions with the letter R only on them, no S-R on the medallions like all my guns have I missed something here?

Emailed the seller and he tells me these are real genuine medallions and that Ruger changed the logo to the hard- R now no more S.

This guy trying to pull the wool over my eyes or is this true? the newest gun I have right now is a 2000 44mag. Vaquero, so I have no newer gun to look at and see if he's telling me storys here?

My eyes aint to good any more never saw this on newer guns at shows, or gun shops, and not up todate on resent history here I did hear they dropped the Sturm name from Ruger.

ADDED:
Yes we all know Sturm is no longer with us and the history of that so I don't want this post to turn into a history lesson,
So my real question is: Are medallions on new guns shipping from the factory now using only the letter R on the eagle ????
Or are Medallions that DON'T have the S-R fake ?? this is the info. I seek to find.

It is my understanding that Strom is nolonger a owner of Ruger, therefore the S is no longer needed. My P89 and superblackhawk both have the S on them, however my SR9 does not

Alexander Sturm (S-T-U-R-M) died in 1951. He financed the original formation of The Company, and designed the trademark "Eagle" used on Ruger products.

The official company name is still Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.

See Flatgate's link for the "discussion".

Don't think you're off-track. It's sorta a mess.

There are medallions with, and without, the "S". None are fake. It's just a little interesting trying to decide which medallions should appear on which vintage guns.

Yep it's true. Notice the plastic box on new guns and you will see the original R (not the new hard R) with the appropriate S missing.

Ale-8(1) made a good point above. It you are interested in your grips matching your vintage gun, pay close attention which eagle you use.

That's one of the things that make Ruger collecting (accumulating?) fun.

I had an issue resently were I wanted the SR logo for some custom grips and I was sent the R only medallions. I called and the answer I got is they are obsolete! Really makes it hard to replace the medallions on older guns but I got the impression Ruger will not make these ever again.

Of course I am talking about the black revolver type. You can still get the SR logo medallions from the Prescott location for semi-autos but it has a red background.

I notice the new R medallions are brass not sure if the old SR were but the SR's from Prescott are aluminum.

Good luck.

But...."R" medallions have been put on their pistols of all models for a few months now. So I assume they will be out of SR medallions very shortly.

How long have R medallions been put on single actions?
Had a couple pairs of Vaquero grips I was going to sell but think I'll hold on to them now just for the S-R medallions

The first gun we saw with the "R" medallions were the first examples of Williams' KBN-34X, which came out about a year ago.
Depending on what grip it is though, Ruger will eventually have them in everything. They currently have the grips pre-made with medallions so will take a while for certain styles with the old SR meds to run out.
I would think even the latest "cleanup" Vaqueros would still have SR medallions, but even those would run out eventually.
