Hello everyone, I'm getting ready to send off for a letter, and just wanted to know what will be on the letter? From what i have seen it's the factory configuration and shipping date. The gun that I'm lettering is a mark 1 target serial number 283** with the 5 1/4 inch tapered bull barrel. It looks like it was made in late 1951. Here are some pics

Hi Ben

Just for your information--I sent for a letter for a Single Six 4 digit revolver I had purchased and they told me it was shipped in Nov. 1954 but that all other information as to where, characteristics of it were lost in a flood many years ago

Welcome to the Forum!
Generally they only give you the correct model designation & ship date for the serial number you provide.
But, sometimes you do the the flood damaged the records info as well.

When was the flood. Rather not waste my/their time if all you get is a shipping date.

I wrote and asked about information on a RSSM and gave them the serial number. Their reply stated the ship date, that it was shipped with walnut grips, and that it had a 6 1/2" Bbl. They stated they had no information on the box it was shipped in.

When you send your letter in, be sure to ask whether your gun was shipped with a 5-1/4" or 6-7/8" barrel. From the serial number you provided, it should definitely be a 5-1/4", but if you don't specify, Ruger may only say it is a MARK I, along with the shipping date.
Yes....of course it is a Mark I!!!
But had that happen many times on Single-Sixes, Mark I's, 10/22's etc where the actual configuration was what is really needed.
Seeing only "Single-Six" when it was a 4-5/8", or "10/22 Carbine" when it is an International was pretty frustrating.

Thanks for the information. I'll definately ask what length barrel the gun was shipped with, and hopefully Ruger still has some info on it.
