Has anyone ever heard of a Mark II pistol frame being serial numbered?

I recently found a person that has a serial numbered lower and they feel it needs to go through an FFL for that reason.

Thanks for your help.

Dan

nope, never had or seen ANY that were numbered ,but may have been done, if someone 'refinished' it and used the number as a reference to keep all the "matching" parts together.........

I agree with Dan. One other instance could be if the gun was "confiscated" and the BATFE renumbered things....

I've NEVER, EVER seen Ruger label a serial number with a SER. prefix. I'm with Rugerguy in that it was probably placed there by a refinisher at some time in it's life.

Ruger would simply stamp or "scratch" 676 and nothing more......

Didn't the U.S. Military purchase some MK. II's for training, or other purposes? That has to be a military frame.
Interesting....

I would agree, a military frame.

The US Military did purchase some MK II's, (MK678G). My Blue Book states Ser# 210-00001 - 210-18500.

They also purchased some (MK678GC), but no Ser# range is listed. I bet it starts with 210-18501.

Some were also sold to a foreign Military Contract, no Ser# range listed.

It appears the serial #210-5567 is on this frame, from the picture do you believe the last digit, which appears to be a "6", signifies anything? It looks a bit out of alignment.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Dan

It almost looks like the last number was over-stamped with a "6" or added after the fact. There should be five digits in the Ser# I would think.

Ruger's website doesn't show any ser#'s beginning with (210-) for the MK II Series, probably because they were dedicated to the Military.
