I wanted to see what the Ruger Custom Shop would build for me so I decided on the following, Flattop 44 spl., high polish finish, action job and genuine ivory grips. I'm usually not one for shiney or guns with "bling" but I think the high polish goes well with the ivory. They did engrave "Ruger Custom Shop" on the backstrap. Very quick on delivery as well, around 2 months.

I think the high polish goes well with the simplicity of the gun's design, and the ivory grips enhance it even further.

That said, I didn't know Ruger even had any sort of custom shop...they've certainly hidden the link to it well on their website...but I finally found it.

That's great! I knew they were doing engraving but had no idea they were doing grips and custom finish work. Hmmmm.....

EVERYTHING that CMH said!!

What kind of custom work do they do? Only finishes and engraving? Or action work, etc...

Joe, they do action jobs as well. Cost me $125 for the 3# action job on this revolver. Not the cheapest price but I think it was worth it. They will work on any Ruger if you send it to them but if you want the gun straight from the factory it is limited to current factory offerings, but not distributor specials.
They will not deviate from the original model other than grips and finish. No different sights, hammers or barrels etc. I think they will caseharden the frame from what I understand and use Turnbull for that but I did not get a price as I wanted the all blue.

Very nice JCW64!

I snooped around on Ruger's site and couldn't find their Custom Shop  Can anyone provide the page link?

That looks really nice! Love the finish, and the real ivory. I'm drooling all over my computer.

Here's the link: http://www.ruger.com/links/baron.html

Then just click on "Click here to visit". Why Ruger chose to hide the link under Baron Technologies is beyond me. It's either poor marketing on their part, or they genuiunely don't want to grow their custom shop business.

If I recall correctly, Baron Technologies isn't a Ruger owned company. They are licensed to do work for Ruger. You can go directly to them if I recall things correctly. But as noted, they won't do major mods as noted above.

That's beautiful. I love the blued gun with ivory grips look. I kept wondering why it was so engrained then I realized Revell made a Colt SSA model kit that was blued with ivory grips. This was back in the 50s when I made that model as a kid. Still love the look.
This is just an Italian Clone of a Remington 1875. I got some TruIvory Faux grips for it and fitted them myself. A bit of a tedious job but they fit well now. An action job and opening up the sight notch finished the job. Some day I'll fill the hole in the grip from the removed lanyard ring.

Hence the confusion above. It is not a Ruger company. An endorsed supplier/vendor.
