I bought a Ruger, Compact Magnum rifle in .308 a few years back. Since then I see the are no longer listed on Ruger's website. Are they discontinued? It's a fantastic little rifle.

I also purchased a Compact 308 mag. Wanted the 20" barrel with a iron sights
option. I think it was discontinue and replaced by the American. The American lists with no Williams iron sights and it has a 22" barrel.
Had a Barrel problem out of the box but the factory replaced the bad barrel and it's
very accurate now under 1" at 100 yards from the bench with sand bags.
My son likes irons but my eyes can no longer keep focus on the front sight.
Purchase some of the lite loads for Hornaday going to see how they shoot.

The Compact Magnum was made as a way to market the Ruger Compact Magnum cartridge.
They made some in .308 but they are scarce. The problem was, everyone wanted one in .308 and the Ruger short mag was a bust. I recently some some Ruger Africans in .308. Same rifle with 1/2" longer stock. Production of different models is staggered and more Compact Magnums may be made later. The Ruger American has no connection to the Compact Magnum. The Compact Magnum and African are variations of the 77 Hawkeye.
