Ruger Blackhawk trigger reset?

Hi all. I have a Blackhawk that seems to hiccup when the trigger resets after the hammer falls. It resets, but it doesn't seem as smooth as it should be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Hammer is pinching the transfer bar. Once you dry fire it, hold the hammer forward with your thumb while you release the trigger. If it doesn't reset until you release the pressure from the hammer, that is definitely the trouble.

That helps. Doesn't do it all the time. Where is the best place to look for the cause of the bind?

Look again. Dry fire the EMPTY revolver. Hold the trigger to the rear then slowly let it move forward while watching the hammer. If the hammer moves forward as the trigger "resets" then the hammer was pinching the transfer bar, not allowing it to retract. Since the transfer bar pivots off the trigger the trigger won't reset either.

There could be a "bind" in the hammer, too, where it rides between the "ears" of the grip frame and/or within the hammer well in the cylinder frame.

Check. It doesn't seem to move the hammer. However, the firing pin doesn't seem to get full travel, either. Like something is preventing the hammer from striking the transfer bar correctly.

Get a can of "non-chlorinated" Brake Clean (better for our enviroment) and give the lockwork a "shot" while the hammer is cocked.

Of course, a total tear down and close inspection of the components is in order.

Thanks Flatgate. I should buy the shop manual. This was kind of a crate case I got for a good deal. Figured I could learn the basics of 'smithing without damaging any of the babies in the safe. Tore it down, looks like some debris was keeping the bottom of the pawl away from the frame slot.
