I am having extraction problems with my 30-06. I loaded some rounds in new brass and and some once fired full length sized brass. I am using loads I have used in my other 30-06 rifles with no problem. I know each rifle is different.
I shoot 3 shot groups. 2 cases will extract with little or no effort. The 3rd case will have heavy bolt lift and difficultly pulling the bolt back and extracting the case. I have had heavy bolt lift in other rifles, but there were ejector marks on the case head. You could hold the barrel up and the bolt would fall open. There are no ejector marks on the American cases. There are marks on the side of the case just above the case head. I thought the chamber might be a little rough and "grabbing" the case. My gunsmith looked at the chamber and said it looked smooth enough to him.
Is anyone else having any problems with their American?

Thanks

Herman

Its doing it with both factory ammunition and hand loads? If its just with hand loads, its important to start over and work up a load for each rifle. What might be safe in one rifle can very easily be way over pressure in another.

What mattsbox said. I would buy a box of factory ammo and if that does the same thing you will know it is the rifle and not the ammo. I have had a similar problem in a rifle where the case was just partially re-sized and it was difficult to extract, they were not hot loads. I went back, reset the die properly and problem was gone. I think what happens is that the case expands unevenly and causes the difficult extraction.(I might be wrong, but the problem was solved after I re-sized the brass). Not in a Ruger American rifle though.
