Ruger American .243, .308 Availability

Anyone know or heard when these calibers will be released? Nobody at the local gun shows in this area (Tampa, FL) has any idea. General answers range from "the distributor has no clue" to "everything is on backorder".

I haven't heard that there is any plan to make a short-action version. I suppose it may depend on how well the current version sells, and a reading of how much demand their might be for a short acion.

Our local shop has a bunch in both 243 and 308. I think they were asking $369

Hmmm... looks like they have a short-action version, after all. I still have an article here somewhere saing they would be .270 or .30-06 only for at least a while...

From my understanding it's always been available in both long and short action from the start. However, I have yet to fondle one as it's scarce. The BassPro up here in Gurnee, IL has not seen a single shipment yet. Most of the employees weren't even aware of Ruger's American rifle. It's been about four months since its debut and I have yet to see and handle it. I figure it'll be quite some time too.

I have had my RAR x 30.06 for almost 2 months. Finally put a few rounds down range last Sunday. mmmm...flawless.

Still waiting for the mailperson to deliver the FREE cheek pad from Ruger. My LGS had several on the self @ $359.

At the NRA show today I was told by a Ruger Rep that all 4 calibers are at Distributers now.

Guess I'll be headin' out to the "LGS" next week to order one in .243 for the Mrs.

Local gunshop here in Greenville, SC is still waiting on about an order of a dozen - 3 in each caliber. I'm itching for one in .308.
