Just purchased one of these Saturday. The bluing on the barrel of this gun is as good as any I have ever seen! Ruger can blue a gun when they want to. I just find it ironic that they put that great a bluing on a budget priced gun. It's a tack driver by the way. Feeds much better than the Savage I sold and replaced with this gun. All in all I am pretty tickled with it.

I really like the .22 mag cartridge. I live in lightly populated rural area so its perfect for hunting woodchuck on my cousins farm. I have a Marlin 783 that is the most accurate magnum I've ever shot. I guess that why I still have it after all these years . Glad to know you have a good one too.

I know what you mean. My RAR in .22 magnum came with a very good polished blued finish but about 2/3 of the way up towards the muzzle there is about six inches of the barrel that is just kind of wavy, at a distance you can't notice but up close you can. I would have called to have them correct it but the rifle just shoots so nice I didn't want to take the risk of getting a replacement that didn't. My 2015 blued steel Single-six has I think is a terrific finish for that price of handgun.

In my opinion (based on only two specimens), the bluing on the American rimfires isn't very durable. My rifles are USED not pampered range toys. They are handled, carried, exposed to dirt/weather, and hauled around in gun racks. This is the primary reason my current UTV rifle is a SS/polymer 10-22--the blued rifles just don't stand up to gun rack wear and tear.

I love the gun. I also have a Savage and would make the same comparison. I am also a major collector / user of ALL types of .22 ammo. I don't have any problems while using them. Long. short, LR, WMG, /250, hollow, all velocities. snake shot, you name it. I personally think it's a terrific caliber, rimfire not a problem in quality ammo anymore. Oh yeah, I forgot: Except for the /250 you can carry 8 gazillion rounds if you feel like it.
