I am looking for a solid, permanent reciever sight to put on my 77. I have seen the sights offered by NECG and XS, both seem to have mixed reviews. Is there anything else out there that I am missing? I prefer hunting with open sights, and want the benefit of a receiver sight on my rifle. Any suggestions, or even some reviews on the sights mentioned above would be helpful.

The only other receiver sight that I know of made for the M77 is the Williams Foolproof. I am not sure if it is still inproduction. The receiver has to be drilled and tapped on the right side to mount it. I use XS sights on my M77. I like the superior, sight picture they offer, without covering up the target.

My yougest brother is blind as a bat and can't use a scope. When the weather gets crummy and he gets rain or snow on his glasses AND on the scope it's impossible to see through three different plains with rain drops on them.

He has all three of his 77s drilled and tapped and installed the Williams Sight on them. Doesn't look bad and is basically foolproof.

As long as the 77 had zero collector value and I wanted iron sights I wouldn't hesitate. Even if out of production the Ruger was a standard offering and should be available or come up on occassion on the various auction/gun sites.

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning more towards the XS sight. I would prefer the use of the ghost ring setup most of the time. And the XS can be modified to accept smaller apertures. It is my understanding that the NECG aperture is needed to hold the windage/elevation adjustments in place, thus preventing it from being used as a ghost ring.

That is correct about the apperature locking the elevation slide alaskamace. I have a couple of NECG peeps and occasionally use them for paper punching but with the XS, especially on moving game as you can follow the animal easier, with less of it covered by the apperature and sight.

The Williams can be use essentually all the same sight disc that the Lyman did. So, wide open, "Ghost Sight or big disc with tiny hole for target shooting and everything between.

Just a thought.

XS also offers a ghost ring aperature for their sights that is threaded to accept a peep apperature if desired for target shooting.

I haven't seen this. Do you have a part number?

Thanks

Here is a link for the aperture.

The aperture supplied with the NECG sight is, to my way of thinking, essentially a ghost ring, and is a fine piece of equipment. I thought I might want a larger aperture than that supplied, but find that I don't, for mid-range use on myK77/44.

My 2cents. Call Ruger and see about getting a receiver sight as is used on the newer Gunsite Scout. It should lock in the rear scope ring slot as if made for it! I do not know this for a fact, but Ruger rings work on the scout. It may also be the same sight used on some of the newer Ranch Mimi14s. One of Ruger's price point is because of so much parts interchanging. Good luck, jack

The Gunsite Scout rear sight will work on any M77, however again, you will have to drill and tap the receiver to attach it.

I have NECG on a No.1 International and XS on a Winchester 30/30.

Both are great in my opinion.

Note too dominant front white post is also available for the NECG-I almost missed the front sight option list while researching NECG via the net.
