Weather improved somewhat recently and after checking all areas of my 10/22 went to the range again and find the same performance as first trip, lousy!!! The rifle does have a muzzle device on it (flash hider) and with magnifier checked to see if any strikes by the bullet as it left the barrel but everything looks normal, no bullet strikes?? I have a SS 10x scope that is used from time to time on my 308-match rifle and will replace the Vortex with it soon and give it another try at the range. If same results will send the rifle back to Ruger for inspection and correction if needed. Have thought about converting the rifle to a 10/22 pistol version but not sure that is legal to do so???

With that scope are you able to adjust the parallax to the distance you're shooting. What distance and ammo are you trying and what is your term as lousy.

Lousy means a wide grouping or just not where you (think) are aiming?
I lousy has a broad range of meanings, likely yours is not mine nor maybe his. With some rifles I owned lousy was 5 shots bigger than .4 ths of an inch at 50 yds shooting prone. Until you know his standards how can useful help be offered.

From past experience it doesn't take much of a 'bullet strike' to send 22 bullets awry BUT. Such instances are often apparent by WIDE dispersion on the target. Not just 'lousy' groups but missing a 12" target @ 25 yards. If no lead smears were noticed using 'a magnifier', most likely this isn't your problem. Most flash hiders have very ample clearances vs bullet diameter so it's vey unlikely this is the problem.
What type of scope did you have on the 10-22? I've seen parallax error cause some large groups that varied in point of impact by several inches. If this is the problem changing to a 10x scope designed for longer ranges isn't going to help.
