Ruger #1 RSI Accuracy

Am the owner of a Ruger #1 RSI in 243 Win. If I fire more then 3 rds and the barrel starts to warm up the groups and P.O.I. go crazy. Has any body tried any accuracy work on the RSI's to increase their potential. Is so could you post what you have tried so I might be able to improve the performance alittle

The RSI is a great light weight hunting gun. In most situations 1 or 2 shots will suffice. If you get a good group with 2 or 3 shots you should be good. The thin barrel isn't much good for repeated bench rest shooting. For trying out loads etc, you will have to let barrel cool between shots or cool it down. I have seen people use water, ice, cold packs and so on to do this. Good luck.

Yep, I can't imagine what medium/small mammal (.243) would tolerate more than three "single fired" shots before taking to it's heels. But I've always coveted a No.1 RSI in 7mm Mauser. Can't envision a finer tool.

This is a hunting rifle. You have to let barrel cool. My 77 .270 does same thing. It improved greatly with a Bell & Carlson stock. I'm sure there is something you can find to help, but thats why bench rifles are bull barreled.
