Rubber or Wood Grips?

I've been shooting my new SP101 4" 357. I am also having the finger drubbing problem. Because of an old hand injury, I can't change my grip so that it doesn't happen with heavy loads. I usually use loads where it's not a problem, so I might just put up with it. But...if I were going to go for repacement grips which would you prefer. Rubber or wood. I admit to being attracted to wood grips. I shallow enough to like pretty things.
Appreciate others thoughts.

The SP-101 with Hogue rubber grips is a pleasure to shoot if not to look at. 8) 8)

I had that debate myself not too long ago, RE: grips for my Police Service-Six. I don't like the stock grips at-all, so I put a Hogue Monogrip on, then I decided that the Hogue grip didn't fit just right and felt "hollow". Then I went to some nice old wood (walnut) Mustang grips with fingergrooves. After some filing, sanding, & refinishing, they were "ok". However, just a couple weeks ago I went with the Pachmayr rubber "Gripper" grips, and for me, those are perfect...They fit the gun better, and they fit my hand better.

Rubber for shooting, wood for concealed carry. The rubber grips have a tendency to grab onto your clothing. The best compromise may be a wood grip shaped somewhat like the one you picture. IMO/my 2 cents, jack

Go with the old factory rubber grips and put custom wood panels in them instead of the plastic ones. Best of both worlds. jmho :wink:

That's one of the reasons why I went with the Pachmayr "Gripper" over the Hogues...Eventho they are both rubber, the Pachmayr grips seem to grab onto clothing less than the Hogues do, as the Pachmayr seem to be made out of a slightly harder rubber.

It's your call but I am a rubber grip man. Reason being I use my guns and the pretty wood grips don't stay pretty with use. The rubber isn't nearly as good looking as fine wood but they stay the same when used in holsters in briers and occasionaly rubbing aganst a tree or bumping aganst a trailer when getting the 4 wheeler loaded and unloaded. The rubber helps dampen recoil also. Yes there are some awesome looking grips out there that are beautiful but they don't hold up as well as rubber. The finish doesnt flake off or get scratched and they don't absorb oil and turn dark. I own over 20 single actions and all have rubber grips except a few that I haven't used for hunting. Another thing I like is that you don't have different shapes to get used to when changing guns. I put pachmayr presentation grips on my guns they have a standard size and shape that doesn't vary much from gun to gun. The guns vary in weight but feel basically the same from gun to gun as far as grip feel. I'm not rough on my guns when I use them but I don't have to worry about scratches either. I have seen many a set of nice wood destroyed by normal use. I will stick with my rubber good looking no but functional and very forgiving.

I have the same problem. I like the looks of the SP grips that it comes with, but in a .357, they are less than ideal.

This little gun is so aesthetically appealing that I hate to put rubber on it, so I am thinking a set of wood Hogues will be what I will opt for.

Someone right here on this forum, just the other week posted a picture of what I will wind up with. 8)

After thinking about this one for a few seconds, it occured to me that I don't have rubber grips on any of my handguns.

They all wear wood, so I guess that's my preference.

If you want to admire it...get wood. If you want to shoot it...get rubber...I use Hogue rubber MonoGrips on my CCW 2 1/4" SP101.

I put the Hogue rubber grip on my SP101 when I carried it on hunting/field trips. Nicer to hold and shoot but not as easy to conceal as the OEM Ruger grips. Now it mostly stays in the night stand with a Hogue Cocobolo wood grip, I think the wood just looks and feels better. The rubber grip would be more durable if the gun was used a lot though.

Personally, I think the Hogue rubber grips look better than (most if not all) the wood ones (this does not apply to SAs of course). And they feel great too! I don't like the look of the Ruger factory grips with the panels, or the feel of them.
