I have a question and was hoping one of you guys would know the answer. I notice some of the Pachmayr grips have the medallion and others don't, even with the same model of grips. For example I've seen Grippers for the Security Six with and without the medallion. I've heard the ones with the medallion referred to as Pachmayr Signature grips. Is there any real difference between the two or does one just look fancier? I'm just wondering if there's any functional difference, does one use a softer rubber or anything like that?

While we're on the subject of grips, I know Hogue is a little different than Pachmayr. I'd love to try some Hogue grips but I think they're way too big and they don't make the Bantams or Tamers for the Six guns. I know they have that peg or whatever at the bottom. I'm wondering if it's possible to take a Hogue monogrip and shorten it like the Bantam grip. I'm guessing it's not because the way it's attached to the gun but I've never actually used Hogue grips so thought someone with more experience might have an idea.

I'm probably just going to end up getting some badger boot grips for my Speed Six. I've come to really like the old factory rubber grips, the Sile ones, but mine are kind of hard so I'm still looking at different options. I'm considering modifying a set of grips I really like from a different revolver with similar dimensions. If I go through with it I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I don't think there would be any way to modify Hogue grips to fit a Six series of Ruger revolvers. I'm a big fan of Hogue grips but their attaching method on a double action revolver makes it necessary for the grips to be a little longer than normal. I'll admit that I don't own a Six series Ruger so my comments may be a little off.

I believe that the medallions appeared after the company changed hands. I know that Lyman owns it now. I have a vague memory that someone else owned it before Lyman but I may be wrong.

I prefer the ones without the medallions.

They make their grips for the Six revolvers but only the Monogrip and the wood grips. I think you're right, it's probably not possible to shorten them because of how they attach.

Ok so I'm guessing there's no difference in the rubber used. Thanks!

I hate rubber. For informal target shooting I prefer a nice wooden stock. But when hunting afield I switch to goodyears.

I've had several of the brands already mentioned here, but when I found an Uncle Mike's I ended up buying more for the other revolvers that I had that occasionally used rubber. Just my opinion, based on how they fit my hand.

I realize that they are now not producing stocks any more, but if I needed one now I would look on eBay to see if I could find a NOS.

Did Uncle Mike's make grips for the Six revolvers? I know they made a lot of S&W but I've never heard of them being made for any Ruger. I know a lot of guys like them on S&Ws.

I like wood grips if they fit my hand really well. I wouldn't mind getting a nice pair of wood grips that fit me for carry purposes. I actually found the rubber grips I really wanted and got a good deal on them so I'm content for now. Down the road I'll probably look into getting a set of Badgers for my Speed Six. Unless I come across a pair of Heretts, I'd probably modify em and round em off for carry grips.

I like rubber grips but not all rubber grips, it depends on the material, the make/model of grips, and the gun itself. For example I loved Pachmayr Grippers on my Security Six, they made it seem like a whole new gun compared to the factory stocks. I hate the Grippers on my Speed Six though. Way too big for the snubby and when shooting them they made no difference over the factory rubber grips that were made by Sile. The Sile grips so far have been the best compromise between concealment and shootability for me. I managed to get a decent pair but I'm going to try the Pachmayr Compacs soon too.

I prefer Hogues. They seem to always remain a little more pliable over time.

I wish they made the Bantam or Tamer for the Six revolvers, they still make the monogrip but that's it. I just think the monogrip is too big for the 2.75 Speed Six, especially for ccw.

Unfortunately they won't fit my 4 inch since it's a low back. Pachmayrs will work on the 150 frame but not the Hogues. I'd love to try em on a 4 inch.

Yes, Uncle Mikes did make grips for Ruger DA revolvers and a lot of people really liked them. I believe they stopped making them when UM either came under new management or was sold to anythe corporation.
They gotta be rare for the Six revolvers, in all of my grip searches I've never seen a pair or even had anyone mention them. I did a search and most of what came up were S&W grips but 2 pairs of UM grips for the Redhawk came up. Both were selling for over $100, yikes!!! I'd hate to see the asking price on a pair for the Sixes.

I tried to like Hogues some forty years ago. Just couldn't as I discovered that I don't like finger grooves.

For the record, I like the rubber grips because they are less punishing to my aging arthritic hands than wooden grips.
I like finger grooves if they fit me but if they don't they can be a detriment for sure.

I only like wood grips if they fit my hand, if not I'll take rubber grips every time. The factory stocks on my low back Security Six beat my hand up like I owed it money! I found you can make Pachmayrs work on the early models and the Grippers turned it into a whole new gun. Then I found a pair of Mustang target grips for the early models. They partially covered the backstrap and a piece broke off. I sanded em down to the backstrap and they fit me perfect now. It shoots just as well as it did with the Pachmayrs. Completely changed my mind on wood grips, before that I thought rubber was the only way to go. If my Security Six had been a later model no way I would have taken a second look at any wood grips, target grips or not. Now I'm a firm believer wood can be just as good as rubber for recoil IF they fit your hand.

I don't get the whole rubber grips are bad for ccw and stick to clothes thing. Maybe it depends on the material but I've never had an issue with Pachmayr or Sile grips. I can see where it'd be an issue with Hogue grips, they seem to be not as slick as the others.

I have a set on my Redhawk. My old UM's catalog shows Redhawk, all the Blackhawks and all the pistols. Also, GP100, but no Security Six. But the catalog was printed after the SS was discontinued.

The key to eBay success is to do saved searches, being patient AND, be ready to pounce when that email arrives!
I did a rapid BIN on a new in package Uncle Mikes Redhawk grips for $30 shipped last Spring.
No shortage of greedy sellers looking for a sucker on eBay.

usually when the grip has the factory medallion or the molded in logo they are made FOR the company , when "plain " or just the "Pachmayr " ( or Hogue) medallions, for example, those are 'aftermarket sale'..........;)

I like the Pachmayrs without any medallions.

I always liked it when the grips SAID "Ruger"....like when 'Sile' used to make the wood grips for Ruger and they put the Ruger medallions, and their 'aftermarke't 'Siles' had the "Sile" medallion.........say on the Security Sixes for example ;)
