RIP: Robert Burns

Robert "Bob" Burns, Jr., one of the founding members and former drummer for the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died last night in a single car accident near Cartersville, GA. Burns was 64, and the accident is still under investigation. RIP, Bob...

He left the band several years before the plane crash.

Unless in mistakes that only leaves Gary Rossenton as the last living member of the original band .Thier my favorite southern rock band .
Just think where they'd be now if they hadn't lost the folks they did and had stuck it out for all these years .
I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Sant Steve and Cassy Gains and busted up the rest of the band.
I was walking to the store about a mile from my house listening to a small transistor radio when they cut in in the middle of free bird to announce the crash .
Broke this young southern rockers heart it did.
The band I was in at the time were waiting with bated breath for the new album street survivors but it was selling so fast every shipment would sell out before I could get to town to buy it.
I DO however have the original album cover with the fire in the back ground and the rerelease of the album with out the fire on it.Man I wish I'd never opened that original album with the flames on it .
Unopened their worth a small fortune now.
Anyway R.I.P. Bob , your back with your buddies now I bet their rock in the night away tonight.

I know what you mean, Lou...I have spent more hours listening to Skynyrd than any other band. I loved all of the southern rockers...but Skynyrd is at the top of the heap, for me.

Funny, but when I think Lynyrd Skynyrd, I never think of the current band...it is as if the band went away in 1977.

Yes Jim, one of my favorite memories of the original band is thawing that thump thump of the bass drum and Ronnie saying " OK how bout a little honk and they break into Gimmie Three Steps.You can catch that whole live concert on you tube in San Fransisco i think in the summer of 1976 Steve Gains had just joined the band .Man what a show .
Think I'll have to pull that up and listen to my boys do their thing and toast them with my last bit of Courvoisier .V.S.O.P..
We had the greatest southern rock band for way too short a time.
May they all Rest In Peace.

I saw this news story earlier. Time doesn't stop for anybody.

Artemus Pyle lives near here & I've seen him a few times. A nice guy, a former Marine (I think, if my memory is correct), and a strong supporter of firearms.

Skynyrd will always define Southern Rock!

Heard about this on the radio earlier. Must have been a bit creepy, being one of the few left from the earlier
accident which took most of his band members. Well, he's with them all now. RIP Robert Burns. - DixieBoy

Actually, Robert left the band in 1974, 3 years before the disastrous plane crash ... But he most certainly WAS a founding member, and by all accounts a really good guy.
