I received an email from RFC that is 100% an ad from Cabela's. But it came from RFC with my RFC login id, etc.

- Is that forum selling contact info of its users for profit? Apparently so. :evil: :evil: :evil:

I think Mohavesam is talking about Rimfire Central. I got the same ad. The sender looks like Rimfire Central but it is an advertisement from Cabelas.

I took a screen shot, notice how at the top, the sender is RFC:

.

:shock:

FWIW - I've been an RFC board member for about as long as I've been a board member here (10 years, +/-), and have yet to receive any such e-mail.

Maybe they know that I have no money left......... ;)

I think I signed up to Rimfire central about 6 or 8 years ago to find out about how to lighten the trigger pull on a 10.22... only time I was there and completely forgot about the web sight and then about 6 months ago I started to get these group notices about the latest discussions... and yes I got the Cabelas Add yesterday too.... advertising on the internet has become a joke in my mind.. .just like this black friday crap....

Do you use Tapatalk on your mobile phone to access the site? Tapatalk has changed its rules so that it gets access to the forums database. Some forums are removing their software for this reason. You probably don't even have to use Tapatalk since they can look at the forums database.

This is RFC's reply when I questioned the ads;

"Because sponsor contributions are the reason we can cover the expenses of the website. You can opt out of email communication if you wish. CLick the link in the email."

I have "opted out" twice now, I get screen confirmations that I have successfully completed the option, and still get new spam messages addressed from Rimfire Central.

Maybe they ought to consider their members' privacy and discretion more important than revenue/profiting from a free board? What other member information are they selling?

RFC demonstrating GREED, not free information-sharing for hobbyists and shooting-sports enthusiasts.

I also opted out but it had no effect. Guess I'll have to note RFC emails as SPAM. Buh-Bye! :?

This same subject is being talked about over at RFC.

Just the double-speak: " it wasn't us! We would never do that!"
Methinks the forum owners are not in control of their software...
