Rescued a stray today

A buddy of mine called me today and said a local pawn shop had a 10.5" Super on the discount rack and said the tag said "Broken". They aint that complicated so i told him i wanted it. I get there to buy it and notice the sights are missing, as is the base pin. It wasnt broken... just tattered. So i laid my money down and brought it home. I attached a Single Six sight i had laying around and hope it will be tall enough. My buddy has a base pin and rear sight he is sending me so once it gets here i'll have it up and running. It had a set of Pachs on it so I'll swap those out in favor of some wood panels soon as i find some. It cleaned up pretty nice. Has some surface rust but the bluing used to be that good bluing. Toying with the idea of sending it back to Ruger for a refinish but dunno if I'd rather have that old bluing thats nice in spots or Ruger's new "utility" bluing that at least looks decent. OR if i wanna send it to somewhere like Tyler for a nice reblue. Def wont do that til i soend some time with it to see if it's a keeper or just a temporary project.

Trigger's nice too. Oh the barrel is "bubba" drilled and tapped for a scope mount.



This spot on the barrel is also on the other side. Like it had been put in a bog pod or something.

Good one to fool around with! Doesn't look any worse than the one I just had Cerakoted, and I considered keeping it the way I found it and simply explain it was a hunting revolver, with honest wear. I was looking at a 10" barreled SBH that needed TLC, also, but let it get away from me. Think one of those is what I'll look for next. Does it have a squared trigger guard?

Yessir. It does have the dragoon frame

Took the rubber grips for that off my 7 1/2" SBH, also, replaced with a Walnut grip by Badger.

Joe, great find. I think Tyler will do the Hi polish. He did a cylinder for me and it came back beautiful. Maybe send him the gun.
I've gotten taller front sights for my Maxi. from Ruger in Prescott. MK11 or single six sights. Clements makes them I think also.

This is a modified Single Six front sight i put on my Maxi. It is PLENTY tall. Maybe too tall. I'm hoping that the Super will be the same way.

This is the rear site on my Maxi. It does need to come down a few clicks but it's close. May be filing the front down a little more.

Thanks to Tek4260, i now have a decent base pin and resr sight. The base pin i had was a suspected faulty one from an old vaquero way back when. So glad to have a good one.

I have 2-3 base pins around that I replaced with Belt Mountain pins, if you ever need another.

Grips arrived. Bedrockfred hooked me up.









Ammo loaded. 10 gr Unique and 240 gr SWC til i can get the 250's lubed. Hope to try tomorrow.
