I have two pistols that the previous owners painted the sights on otherwise beautiful guns. It looks like hell, and I want to remove it without damaging the finish underneath. What is the best and safest way to remove this old sight paint?

yessir acetone should work but never know "exactly" what type of paint they may have used.......that will determine how easy it comes off, may need a bit of brushing with a nylon or even a brass brush, not too hard...this will NOT hurt the bluing underneath, and even if you do get a bit of "white" ( bare metal on the sight blade) a Q-tip with a bit of cold blue ,like 44-40 will touch it up just fine...........
