Rememberin' a friend..............

His name was Bill Zuber, and he was a professor of chemistry at what was the the University of Memphis. Bill was a tall, straight and youthful looking, though bald as an egg. He loved to shoot, and at one time or another shot a very wide assortment. On day at the range it might be shooting a Ruger Blackhawk, the next a Russian Nagant, then an Iver Johnson. A gun snob he was not. If it was safe to shoot, he had it. And Bill was one of those who spent cold Saturday afternoons in deep gun conversation at East Park Hardware.

Then one day we learned that Bill had been fatally stricken with a heart attack. Like many men, he was only known at the range or hardware store, and we knew very little concerning his death.

A week or so after his death, a letter from his widow was posted at the store. I don't remember the exact wording, but his widow expressed her appreciation to all of us for our contribution towards making his life cheerful and worthwhile. He loved us all, she said, and wanted us to know what an impact we had on his life.

Well, when I heard that read I felt sort of a warm glow inside, and knowing that I had a small part in making a difference in his life. And that he recognized that and expressed his sentiments.

Bill Zuber sure made an impact of some lives. It's always been my goal to make a difference in another's life.
