farewell my old friend

When I went to work at Newport News Shipbuilding I spent 5 years planning and executing the refueling of the USS Enterprise in the early 90's. She was a fine ship then only age and cost caught up with her. I could walk that ship blindfolded. Lots of memories.

Can't wait to see the new Big E.

I always wondered what that large bulge in front of and below the bow on large ships is for.

Anyone know?

Do you know what the bulbous bow is for? - SAFETY4SEA

A bulbous bow is a protruding bulb-shaped structure located at the forward part of a ship's hull, just below the waterline. Its primary purpose is to reduce wave-making resistance and improve propulsion efficiency, ultimately leading to fuel savings.
