Been reloading for about 25 years but never for 9mm. Looked in my Hornady manual and they show a max of 6.3gr ( if memory serves me correctly) of Unique for a115 gr pill. Measured out 6.1gr into a resized primed case and noticed that the powder filled the case almost to the rim! Looked at the manual again looking for a compressed load indication but there was none. Is this a compressed load? Other manuals I have do not show compressed either. Appreciate your assist. :D

The first two manuals I got my hands on here, had 5.1 and 5.8 as max, listed. This using Unique and 115gr bullet as ,mentioned. stevemb

Hi,

Just checked my notes, and it seems I have several 9mm recipes using 115 gr plated and FMJ bullets over 5.5gr to 5.8 gr of Unique. Don't remember any of them appearing "full" beyond a normal level (in other words, NOT compressed), and being a confirmed single stager, I do look inside all of 'em in the loading block!

Silly question time: have you double checked your scale?

Sierra shows 6.6 grains of Unique as max, but thats also around 1250 FPS. Thats pretty hot and really not necessary, I'd second WESHOOT2 and go with 5.5 grains for ~1100 FPS.

if you are use to loading .38 spl or some other revolver round, a fair amount of Unique in a 9mm case looks pretty full. I find there are better powders for 9mm, like 231/HP-38, Power Pistol, AA#5 or AA#7, WSF. I had a Unique load for 9mm 115 that looked like almost to the rim but after measuring depth and seat, it was not compressed, close but not compressed.

As per the data on the Alliant site

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/recipedetail.aspx?gtypeid=1&weight=115&shellid=23&bulletid=25

COL Primer Powder weight velo
1.125 4 CCI 500 Unique 6.3 1,244

So the data looks right, as mentioned earlier you may want to check your scale. Or if you are using a powder dispenser then make sure the dispenser is throwing 6.3gr. So you may have two items to check.
