Redhawk trigger

Any ideas on how to reduce the trigger pull on a Redhawk? My brother has one and he has polished it and got it down to 4 1/2 pounds but wants 3 pounds, he says if he changes the spring it also lightens the hammer and he didn't want the hammer any lighter.

I've figured out the single actions that Ruger makes. I've been into a Redhawk ONCE and reduced the SA trigger pull a bit and eliminated the creep. I've never "gaged" the pull, though.....

There certainly are folks skilled with the Redhawks and the Super Redhawks..... it ain't me though.... :D

As you & your brother has found the Redhawk trigger is a mite tricky !!!

I`d find a competent smith .

I lucked out as a trip back to New Hapshire for mine (loose barrel) came back with a list of new parts & 1 of the best triggers I`ve felt on a Redhawk

A set of hammer and trigger shims should take a little off the pull without reducing the spring.
An added benefit is the reduced friction will also cause the hammer to fall with more energy.

From what I can gather from a few websites such as Bowen and Clements the SA can be brought down to about 3.5 lbs to 4.5 with stock springs. Probably other than judicious polishing inside they might tamper with sear angle something best left to someone with a LOT of experience. I found out the hard way on one RH as it came back with pushoff. On the tuned RH's I have had sometimes someone can use a Wolff 14 lb spring and I got the SA to about 4.25 lbs. With the 12 lb Wolff the SA was in the high 3's but would get misfires in DA on a lot of ammo (such as factory WW and Rem).

My brother can make the Blackhawk trigger awesome but the Redhawk has him stumped. He says the Super Redhawk is easier because it uses two springs and you can work on the trigger spring without messing with the hammer spring.
