Redhawk trigger guard latch question

For those of you who have removed and reinstalled the trigger guard on your Redhawk, is the trigger guard latch supposed to seat all the way down (to the circlip) or is only necessary to seat enough to hold the trigger guard in place?
The latch on mine only goes a little over half way in before it stops. The trigger guard is fully seated, I tapped it with a rubber mallet and there is no gap. I don't want to beat on the latch because that will make it that much harder to remove later.
I called Ruger and the individual I talked to did not seem sure if it was a problem or not but gave me a RA to send it in.
Just curious what others experiences are first.

And since everybody likes pictures:

Just sell it to me for about 5 bills as defective, then go get yourself a new one.

If/when I ever find one, I'll let you know if I run into the same problem.
Yeah... Redhawks are like unicorns around this area. Took me awhile to find this one.

I recently got the 45 Colt 4.2 version with basically the same problem. I did not notice if that latch was fully seated before disassembly, but I do know that to get it fully seated on re-assembly, I had to use the same method I used to take it apart in the first place.
That was: I took some needle nose pliers and put them on the end of the takedown pin and tapped the pliers to back out the latch. I did the same thing to tap the latch back in until fully seated.
The Ruger website has a video on the Redhawk takedown process and on the gun they use everything just snaps into place! There was no way my specimen was going to give up or re-seat that takedown latch like in the video.
By the way, after some stoning and filing, I have an excellent double action and 3lb. single with no creep with the stock mainspring. And lock up is tight. :D
Out of the box, it was a lab project!! :?

Sometimes that trigger guard latch needs a little dressing and lube to get it to fully seat when tapped into place with a rubber mallet. Same with all the double-action revolvers. A little 400 wet/dry sandpaper to smooth up the latch and oil will get it working like it should. You should not dress the gripframe unless necessary. :D

If it bottoms on the E clip it won`t do it`s job , does the trigger group come loose upon firing ???
I haven't tried firing it since reassembling it. But, it appears it's pretty tight.
I'll try polishing it up and add a little oil. But, based on the responses, it appears to be a normal thing.

Thanks,
Jim
