Redhawk, Super Redhawk new production changes...

New production .480 Alaskan, 4.2" Redhawk 45 colt examined at show:

1. Recoil plates are gone...firing pin retainer (black) installed from rear, ala SP-101, then GP-100 a few years ago.

2. MIM triggers (cast hammers...DPris was right...only SP's get MIM hammers).

3. Extractor on .480...pinless, but symmetrical. Didn't look at Redhawk's.

4. MIM front Cylinder latch. MIM thumbpiece.

Looks like changes that began with the SP have percolated throughout the DA lineup.

According to Ruger's CS reps of late, MIM parts will be coming soon to a Single Action near you!!

None of it breaks my heart. I'm not old enough to be able to say "back in my day we could buy the same model for half the price"... But I can say that. I'm glad they're making production investment mitigating steps so that maybe 10-15yrs from now, if I need another SRH or "New New Vaquero", maybe this way I won't be paying $1500 for one.

The rear sights on the Blackhawks and Single-Sixes have been MIM for a few years now.

Are you saying the SRH Alaskan will be made in .480?
Is the SRH Alaskan still going to be made in 454 Casull?

I don't give a hoot about MIM parts, I just want to know when I'll see the 454 Alaskan on the market again.

The only SRHs at the show were a .44 mag with a 7 1/2-inch barrel and an Alaskan in .454 Casull.

On Gun Broker recently a number of new Alaskans have turned up for sale in .480 so they must be getting made.
The 4.2" Redhawk should have an interchangeable front sight, too, as opposed to a pinned in sight.

Five 7.5" Supers...three 44s, a 480, and a 454.

4.2" Redhawk 45 had a pinned front sight.

I knew they'd started that a while back, I was told about it last Fall by a rep, sometimes in transition it can take them some time to use up all older parts & switch completely to new.
And I worded it that way to forestall the poster who says "I just bought a new one & the hammer is NOT stainless", sometimes older guns sit for a bit before selling.

You & I knew about it, others may not have.

I was at the Chantilly, VA, gun show this past weekend too. I saw four SRH Alaskans at one dealer (a 480, a 454, and two 44 mags) that were all new production. The 480 lasted less than an hour from the opening of the show on Friday before being sold. I also saw one Redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel in stainless that was new production. So, slowly, slowly they are coming available again.

The ones that I have, just have a hole in the frame where the firing pin protrudes from. Does that change then?

Look closely, very closely.
There should be a ring around the hole where the firing pin comes through.
That's the outline of the bushing.
