Redhawk "project" feasibility question

Ok,background first. I'm a very loyal Ruger shooter. I have been carrying a P-90 for the past 15 years as a Uniformed Police Officer and the last 3 years I've shot Ruger revolvers in PPC.

I am thinking of getting into more of the action pistol shooting still in the revolver area.

I am thinking of building a 5 1/2" Redhawk in 45 acp/moonclips.

I am thinking if getting a 45 colt and a 44mag cylinder and having it bored and cut for the moon clips.

Besides the cost,anyone have any potential pitfalls/problems?

Wild West Guns does this modification on the 454 Super Redhawks, where they modify the cylinder to accept moon clips. I think they call their custom gun the Wolverine.

They also modify a 45 Colt Redhawk. When done it accepts the ACP's and the Regular 45 Colt round. Much cheaper than getting an extra cylinder.

Check-out this recent thread about a TKCustom conversion of a Redhawk and an Alaskan to 45 colt moon clips. With this conversion you can load single rounds or use the clips. 8) 8)

I've competed in USPSA using 5.5" Redhawks in 41 and 44 Magnum, and 45 Colt.
I still (admittedly not since 2005 due to constant surgeries) compete in Revolver Division using that 5.5" 44 and a 7.5" 357 Redhawk.
None of mine were/are converted for moonies.
I never win.
