Redhawk Grip Question

I'm looking at some Redhawk grips that Croydon Gal has (item #28 in this link http://homepage.nhvt.net/meb/ruger.pdf). Anyone have any feedback on how these feel and how they like them compared to a set of Hogue's?

I believe those are Hogue grips. They are the ones that come on the 4.2" Redhawks

Those look like Hogue grips to me, too. I have those on my 5-1/2" 41 mag Redhawk and love 'em.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought those grips looked like they may have been made by Hogue but I have never seen any up close and personal. I have one followup question about them fitting large hands. Mine are not huge but a little bigger than normal. Any comments?

I am not really a fan of those grips. Not that there is anything wrong with them, they just don't work well for me.

After trying several grip styles I settled on the Nills Griffe grips for the Redhawk. A little on the pricey side but they fit my hand perfectly (I wear a size L glove) and look good to boot.

98red those grips look fantastic plus probably make the gun that much easier to handle. Those are Hogues on the 4.2 factory grips known as bantam grips. I took mine off in favor of the original wood factory ones you'll find on there 7 1/2" Redhawks.

One is 45 Colt and the other 44 Mag. Sure wish they would come out with one in the 41 Mag. :lol: :lol:

Are you currently dealing with a Redhawk with stock full-sized rubber Hogue grips right now drt213? How do those grips fit you.

Nice pic!... That's my gun when it was a 45 Colt. It's now a 454...

For me I like these better than the rubber Hogues. They fit my hand better.

Snyd.....your pic seems to be the best one I have seen floating around the web showing the Nills grips.

That 454 RH must be an absolute beast to shoot....even with the Nills grips and Magnaports :shock:

My Redhawks (all 7 1/2" barrels) have the factory wood grips. They just don't have the right feel for me so I'm looking for something that does feel right. My hands also require a large glove. Some of my hand guns have rubber grips but I prefer the look and feel of wood. The Nills look like a work of art to me and if they feel as good as they look, they're probably worth the money. Anyone have any experience with wood grips that Hogue makes?

The fit and finish on the Nills is really spectacular. Mine required some minor fitting in some of the backside areas where the frame is relieved, however once that was done, they fit perfectly.

The surfaces where the two halves meet fit together with nearly no visible seam. You can barely feel it with your fingernail on the bottom of the grip. On the front of the grip, where the stippling is, you can't even see the seam.

I've had five Redhawks; all wore Pachmayr Decelerators.
The two I still have (and my pair of GP100s) all wear Pachmayr Decelerators.

I don't care about how a gun 'looks'; I care about how I shoot it. These stocks work best for me.

I tried the Hogue mono grip yesterday and it doesn't work for me. It feels too skinny and the finger groves don't work well with my fingers....the stock grips felt better. I would like to find grips that feels like those on my S&W 686 (factory wood) . The hunt continues.....

Pachmayr Presentations are my "utility" grip for my Redhawks............but overall I prefer the factory "slim" wood panels.

I also had to do a little minor fitting with the nill grips on my 41 mag. Nothing major at all. I had reservations because of the price, ($100 off of ebay), but I couldn't be more pleased. They're wonderful.

Factory panels with a T-grip,it's a little stingy with hot .44's but I plan to use this gun mostly with .44 Special.

My Redhawk usually wear stock grips but once in awhile it will sport Eagles.

Arisin' Wind, those Eagles look good on your Redhawk. Looks like they probably feel good too....I like that the don't have finger grooves. I have run into very few finger grooved grips the work well with my fingers.

I put a set of Presentations on mine yesterday and they feel much better than the factory ones...now I need to see how they are under fire.

I have The presentation grips on my Redhawk .41 mag I couldnt ask for a better grip.

You can order Hogue wood grips without finger grooves. I like them best of all for std Redhawks.

would like to see more eagle and wood hogue pics. I tried presentation and hogue rubber and was not impressed

I have many pairs of the Hogue wood grips. They are thicker than the rubber/nylon versions. If the rubber/nylon version is a little thin for your hand, you might give the wooden version a shot.

Another good options that may be closer to the stock S&W grips of recent years are the Badger grips. I have a few pairs of those and they position the hand in a more vertical position.

Of old-style standard grips for the bigger hand, I really like Herrett Shooting Stars.
