The last thing in the world I need is a Redhawk 41 magnum. But, that has never stopped me before so I will probably buy one. But, can I replace the Hogue cushion grips with the traditional Ruger round wood grips? Drop in, no gunsmith fit as easy as swapping out GP grips? I see they offer a short barrel now with the wood grips but I want the 4.2" barrel and it appears that only ships with the Hogues.

From what I have heard many times the Hogue rubber grip should slip off with a little prying with a popsicle stick or similar to get it unhooked and the wood grips will fit right on with a grip screw.

I pried the Hogue grips off mine and put on a set of aftermarket wood grips. It's not quite as simple as the GP because there are mating surfaces you can see when the grips are installed, but a little gentle sanding on the wood should something not end up exactly even will take care of any problems in a couple minutes.
ok, thanks, but I clambrained my question. I don't want the ROUND butt regular wood, I want to put the SQUARE butt regular Ruger wood on. Looking at the grip frame from the bottom it looks like the round and square butt might be different shaped grip frames.

The Hogue grips cover a square butt frame on the Redhawk revolvers. The bottom portion of the rubber is unsupported by the frame because it extends beyond it. The only round butt factory Redhawks I am aware of are the .44 and .41 Backpacker models and the .45 convertible model.
My previous post was merely expressing that the grips and frames have some variation that will be visible, unlike the grip peg on the GP, and thus might require minor fitting.

Going the other way, putting round grips on a square frame, the frame would stick out through the grips, look like crap also, and also feel like crap in hand.
However, be sure of what you're buying. The Redhawk 5031, 4.2" Redhawk in 41mag with Hogue grips, pictured below, does NOT come with a rounded grip frame. It's a standard square grip frame.

wolfee, if you look at hittman's picture, you can see the amount of fitting necessary. If you simply put them on without fitting, you will have minor misfit between the frame and the grips at the back and/or bottom of the frame. So yes, you can drop them in, and they may look acceptably good, or you may want to adjust them a bit via minor sanding.

It is a purely drop in replacement, PROVIDED you have the grip panel locator for the traditional wood stocks (the thingy that looks like a wheel). The one that comes with the Hogue grip won't work.
You'll likely need that from the factory, although you might find a used one on eBay.
