Expecting to pick my Hawkeye 300WM laminate this week and have been considering putting a better recoil pad on it. Here is the Peoples Republik of Hawaii, we have only 2 gunsmiths and neither is what I would call "skilled" (I've had work done by both once and had to send their handy work to the mainland to get fixed). Been looking at the SIMS pre-fit pad but not sure if it will fit the laminate stock (does the laminate have the same dimensions as the wood stock?). Also looking at the Pachmayr magnum slip on. As a last resort I could send the stock off the to mainland and get the new pad installed and if I do that can you guys recommend someone who does nice work? Sorri for the questions and I appreciate all your help and recommendations! :D

I wouldn't expect any pre-fit pad to exactly fit any wood stock, laminate or solid. You may get lucky. There is just to much variability. Grind to fit is the way to go IMO and is not hard to do yourself. I don't know how many pads you could buy to "practice" if you messed up compared to sending it to the mainland and back and paying a smith.
