Rain, rain,,, go away,,, come again another day

Well, we have been enjoying daily rain for over a week now. Lots of it VERY heavy. Heavy enough to cause mudslides, flooding & such. Last week, a mudslide killed a woman,,, and closed a road. it's still closed,, and even though part of the road was open to journalists,,, two of them got killed by a falling tree as they were driving in the area of the slide. So 3 dead in one area due to flooding & such.
And now,, today,,, 2 of the 3 roads that come to Lake Lure are shut down due to collapsed roads, mudslides & such. Miss Penny wasn't sure about being able to get to work. Her normal route was blocked. She did a round-about trip, was delayed due to a wreck, but finally made it. But she's not sure about getting home,, as she has to cross a bridge,,, right below a dam,,, that is releasing at full capacity.
On top of all this,, in the Old Fort area of WNC,,, Interstate 40 was shut down & blocked last night. West bound,, mudslide,,, that trapped some vehicles,, but no injuries.
Now,,, in the Black Mountain area,,, a dam is failing,,, and major evacuation is underway in a large area.
But my little town of Lake Lure,, as well as extremely close Chimney Rock & Bat Cave are all shut down & closed. Roads are blocked. Lots of the smaller back roads are also washed out.

More rain expected all day today,, and tomorrow, with the major amount finishing up tonight,, and storms tapering off after tomorrow.

Rain, rain,,, go away,,, come again another day!!!!!!!!!!!

As a side effect of the wet weather, the mosquitoes seem to be out in force early.

I was just thinking this morning that we'll soon have a bumper crop of skeeters.

Over here in Central Va. rain on and off anytime for the last several days along with that tropical humidity and very low big angry clouds.
The weather guy is teasing us about low humidity and a high in 70's come Monday next week.

Hope you folks can get by without the dams breaking!

8.20" just this month. Of that we had 6.40 in one 24 hour period. This at my weather station on my front porch. Truly tired of rain.

The weather prognosticators are calling for more rain for the next three days. Just what we need.

And to think... Our winter rains didn't happen... Spring rains didn't happen. (Wildflower season lasted about 35 minutes)

We been getting lots of rain off and on around here, but May IS the start of the rainy season and then 01 June the Hurricane season starts. (HMMM; "HUR"icane sounds a little sexist to me although the first one was named "Alberto" guess it was a "HIM"icane )

Well, 2 more killed. Boone NC,,, house collapsed on a couple, due to washing out underneath.

I-40 is open,,, but local roads,, may be closed for several days. US-64 & 74-A from Chimney Rock to above Bat Cave has several mudslides & such. It screws up my work for sure.

And on this end of the country, on the Portland news tonight they say the official rainfall today was .01 which makes this one of the driest May's on record.

Hope a large tree,fast kill................hoping they both didn't see it coming, and didn't suffer.

And here in my little piece of the MidWest, we can't "buy a rain". We don't need or want such storms as Contender describes but w/o some rain soon, I'm going to re-name this place "Death Valley Farms" and see if I can order in some camels.

Well, our roads through the valley will be closed at least until Monday. The governor was here yesterday surveying the damage. A state of emergency was declared for parts of WNC.

The journalists, were from SC,, and yes, a local NBC station. The area there were in where they were killed was cleared & supposedly safe. Lots of the traffic in that spot by many emergency workers were using, and anybody could have had it happen.

I see even more is heading your way today. They, the weather persons, are saying we will continue to have rain here till next week. The ground is so saturated it can't absorb any more, now it is just running off and causing other problems.

Well, we appear to be headed for drier days. Today,, we barely got any rain here. My home county has recorded 22" since May 15th. Hopefully, the roads will be open by the first of the week, and I can get back to serious work.
