questions about modifications

I have a new model superblackhawk in 44 mag 5 1/2 barrel fluted cylinder round trigger guard. I have been wanting to do some modifications to it but havent been able to think of a good way or even if I can do the things I would like to do. I would like to get an unflutted cylinder, squared trigger guard, and mabe a 4 5/8 octogon barrel. Just how difficult/expensive would you guys think these mods would be? Would it be worth sending to the factory to do? If I send it to the factory do I get my original parts back? Would it be worth buying another one with the mods that I want from the factory? I figure this would be the best place to ask.

John Gallagher has some octagan barrels in his shop. I'd call him and talk to him. Ruger obviously won't do the octagon barrel since they don't make them or offer them.

well aside from the barrel as that is only a mabe. How hard is it to find squared trigger grip frames and unfluted cylinders?

I'd in the classified section for a super blackhack dragoon grip frame a and have John flute the cylinder you have since you know it fits the gun.

well after looking over a lot of things rather then mess with it. I think Im going to take a different route. Buy me a pawn shop super blackhawk with the squared trigger and unfluted cylinder and rebarrel it. Modifying these things gets expensive pretty darn quick.

hey, you caught on to that one quickly, yessir that is the "best" route to go, those mods' can and will "add up" quickly, and this way as you noted, ONLY need the barrel job and the 'reblue at the same time, to "match'.....that will indeed be a fine looking Super.........

crazed, Also "understand" that all that money you put into customizing to obtain what "you" want, will not probably be anything anyone else will want down the road and in 99% of cases, you will not get out what you put into it and get a return on your money when trying to sell it later. Most people who go into these kinds of things, usually plan on "keeping" that firearm until they pass from this earth! +1; absolutely true. You'll NEVER get out of it what you put into it. I do it to satisfy myself, and don't worry about the resale value.

Thanks for all the help guys. Ive found with all my guns that no matter how much money I put into them for stuff that I like. I never get it back if I have to sell it. The good part about these rugers is I dont plan on ever having to sell them. The 5 1/2 my dad gave me. Its in the private never to be sold part of my collection. I have some I can part with but my dad passed away in 1999 and there really isnt a price I could put on it even if I wanted to. Its already going to my son when I leave. On the positive side though we plan on having another pup in the not to distant future so that will be good reason for getting another one.
