Question on value of Revolver

I have a Ruger Vaquero, 7 1/2 inch barrel, stainless steel, model 05103, in .45 Colt.
I just had some grips made for my new grand son and am putting it in the back of my safe for him when it's time.
I'm filling out an information card so he will know the history of the gun. One of the items I wanted to list was the Value of the gun.

I got this at a gun show in 2010 and paid $450 for it at the time. It's in really excellent condition. It has all the original paperwork, spent casing, etc.

I've researched the net to the best of my ability and it appears this model is no longer mfg by Ruger There are currently none for sale on Gunbroker. I'm getting the feeling from some forum notes that this may be a rather rare gun.

Can anyone give me any info on this gun, possibly an estimated value so I can pass that info along on the card for my grand son?

An excellent idea for you to keep a record of the gun. I'd list what I paid for it in 2010, and add any info on it's rarity & collect-ability to where the current value could be easier found if and or when that becomes important.
I don't have my RENE Guide in front of me to see about how rare those are. But if I were to GUESS at a value, easily $550-$600 if in LNIB condition.

Just in passing.....relatively rare models certainly have the potential to bring more money than more common models. On the other hand, collectors of such things are a somewhat fickle bunch, so take care that you don't loose the original grips.

I've never seen a 7 1/2" barrel on a Vaquero so I'd say it is somewhat rare, how rare I'm not sure. With all of the original components and not knowing the true graders condition I'm guessing $650 on the low end, a plus is it's S/S which can be polished by hand to removed minor scratches. As noted: keep the original grips. Curious is this a Old Model Vaquero or the New Model, asking because a lot of the old model was still being sold NIB in 2010 ?? Note: I went to Armslist.com and did a nationwide search for "vaquero's" and quite a few 71/2" showed up in different calibers........all $ 600 +

What it will be worth 20 years from now wont have much to do with how much you paid for it or what its worth today. Will be fun to know though for him when he gets old.

Though the 7-1/2"ers are more rare, the 45 colts are the more common of the longer barrels. Of course condition always is the issue, but I'd look at $500-$550.

I just bought a like new (98%+) pair of Blued 7 1/2" New Vaqueros for $450 each with boxes, papers and fired cases. Yours should be worth at least that much.

The answer from Texas was spot on, not sarcastic. Inflation has made your sixgun still worth what you paid for it, even though it is now used.
