Question on "best" magazine loading device

Long dead is my old Ram Line loader....while still on hand, I can't tell whether it simply is worn out, or fails to function for other reasons. Given the general defective nature of 20+ year-old Ram Line magazines, no way to tell. When new, it did work well for me for thousands of rounds.

Next was the Butler Creek apparatus. I bought one several months ago, and it failed miserably after about a half-dozen loads. Despite care and attention to detail, the knob simply screwed itself off via material failure.

Recently the "Challenger" ---maybe I have that name wrong, will check it today. Seems to work fine at first, but after a couple thousand rounds is becoming more troublesome.

Anyone have any other models to recommend?

I'd return it to BC for replacement. Sounds like yours was defective in some way. I've been using a BC loader for a few years now, and once you get the hang of how you have to hold it just so and jiggle it just right, it works pretty darn well. Mine's held up fine through hundreds, maybe thousands, of loads.

Cabelas gave me store credit....I chose another brand.

Considering the potential market for such a deal, it's odd there aren't more designs available.

Are you looking for one for the 10/22 magazine or the MKI/II/III magazine?

I have one of the plastic sliders from HKS for the pistol mags, but the 10/22 is easy enough I don't mind it. I shoot a lot more pistol though.

10/22 mags are current concern.

I have 2 of the new Ruger BX-25 mags. They aren't bad to load a couple of times but after that it gets tiring and slow work. I would consider buying a loader that would work on these mags. It seems like this is a pretty simple engineering design problem. Anyone?

I used the "Champion" device at the Steel Challenge today.

Course of fire required 180 rounds.

Used all new Ruger BX25 magazines, which had been all lightly used over the previous few weeks practice.

Loading device had a few minor glitches requiring a little attention but otherwise acceptable function.

Had to change mags in mid-string a couple times due to Fail to Feed from the mags.

No biggie there, just added a few seconds to recognize/react to equipment issue.

Quite pleased with performance of the Target 10/22 as well.

I have a Shooters Ridge loader I got at Cabelas a few years ago and it has worked great. It works better than the Butler Creek loader my nephew bought IMO and it breaks down to pack which can be kind of handy. You don't even have to empty it before you take it apart. The last time I was at Cabelas, I noticed that it is now sold as a Champion brand loader, I guess they sold out to a bigger Company, but, it looks to be the same except for the color. I would buy one again.
