question about SR40

Recently, I bought the new SR40.
After the first cleaning I noticed that the 40 S&W mark on the barrel was gone.
Anybody else have this happen?

nope. I've even polished the exterior portion of the barrel. Still there.

I'm not 100% on how they print that onto the barrels, I think it may be laser printed/etched? I know the SR mark is stamped, but the caliber is printed somehow. Should be permanent, but could come off if any sort of harsh cleaner is used.

Its lasered on, should be permanent... I guess its pretty evident what cartridge the pistol is chambered for though.

I think that there may be some confusion. I am not referring to the etching on the slide. I am referring to the 40S&w on the barrel assembly. The exposed area of the barrel through the ejection port.

I got what you're saying. Mine looks to be lasered on. Couple of thin lines make up the marking.

Mine looks lasered also.

I'd have to polish it off.

I polished that section on my KP944 and my SR9c starting with wet/dry sandpaper and moving to finally dremil and polish. The .40 Auto and 9mm Auto are still there though harder to read. I dont like whatever they coat them with since it looks like crap as it starts to wear off. So I polish them. The printing looks to be laser etched to me.

It sounds like the answer so far is no, no one has ever had this happen. My etching hasn't even faded on my SR9. I would be worried about what else of the rest of the gun isn't up to par personally.
