Question about a new (to me) gun.

I just traded into another gun. It's not here yet but it's the Ruger Blackhawk 44 Special flat top 4-5/8". This one has the lock under the grip. Thankfully it came with a nice grip. I was under the impression there was a "saddle" to replace the "lock" is that the case and how do I get one? What was I to do? I have 3 44 Special revolvers but no Single Action so a guy had to do what a guy has to do.

Secondly, does a SBH hammer switch out without doing anything special. Seems like I heard that there needs to be some mods. How do I get one of those? What can I say, I'm spoiled on that hammer. Prefer it a LOT more.

Anything else I need to know? Wish it was Stainless but got a deal I couldn't refuse.

How does this lock work? I have not seen one. Do you have to remove grip to lock?

I have a New Vaquero and has a lock with a tool to lock and unlock.
Yes you must remove the grips.

You don't have to remove the grips. There's a dimple on backside of the grip panel. The manual states to drill a hole thru the dimple and the grip panel. Then insert the lock key thru the hole to lock and unlock.

I have never seen a hole in the grip of any guns with locks yet. I wonder if anyone ever used the lock as intended.

Ruger will send you the Bearcat spring seat free - any parts under $20. You won't even need to remove grip frame. I can send the procedure once you get it. Or if you want now.

Hammer is about $35 from Ruger, Brownells, ect. Only stainless available any more. It's a drop in. When you get it I can send you some checks to make, just to be sure the transfer bar safety is working correctly, but 99% of the time, it's a drop in with no mods needed.

Thanks did not realize that after all the years I have had it. BTW it came with Black
Plastic grips, wish I would have known before I ordered it. Back around 2005. ps

Congrats on the new revolver. One of the best Rugers, IMHO. The Skeeter loads works great. The Keith load is a handful but also works great.

The cast cowboy 200 gr RNFP makes a great practice load with AA#2 in a light load.

Had a pair of 5.5 inchers. The best put together Rugers I have ever seen come out of the factory.

For whatever its worth, when I bought my .44 Special Blackhawk Flap Tot I ordered a blue Blackhawk hammer from Gun Parts Inc. and installed it with no problem.

The stainless steel hammer just didn't look right to me.
