Question about .22 conversion kits

Is there any reason one of the several .22 conversion kits like the Marvel or the Sig or the Kimber wouldn't work on my SR1911? I gave my son my SR22 and am looking at getting another .22. Just don't know if I want to get the conversion kit or go with something like the GSG 1911-22. I love the 1911 platform so I kind of want to stay with it. Can't afford to shoot .45's as much as I'd like so I thought the kit might be the best way to go. TIA for any help.

I have the Wilson kit on one of my SR1911's and it works fine.

Somebody will be along to tell you that you can buy a whole .22 cal 1911 for the same or less money.

In my case that was not an option, Ed.

I have two of the Ciener 1911 conversions and bought another one for my son. Between us we've used them on a genuine Colt, two Essex frames, an old ODI Viking, and a Kimber. They work magnificently. No reason to believe it wouldn't work on your Ruger.

With the price those are going for, you can buy a separate .22.
Really? You can get a whole .22 pistol for $200 these days? (That's what I've paid--or less--for my Cieners.)

Have you checked the prices in the last month?
The ones I saw were from $300 to . . . ready for this . . . $600.
(Admittedly the high end was a Wilson)

Ciener's still advertising $200 for the basic 1911 unit, $250 for the target-sighted "Platinum Cup."

With my SR1911, the Marvel, Ciener, and Advantage Units worked well, nearly 100% reliability with Remington Golden .22 lr solids, as well as CCI Mini-Mags. HP's are not as reliable...an occasional hang up every other mag. Only the Advantage Unit would lock the slide back after the last round. Of them all, the Marvel is the best made and accuracy is superb...1-1.5" gps at 25 yds from a rest.

I tried the Colt .22 lr Conversion Unit but could not get it on my frame.

Have a tightly fitter SR1911, bought the Kimber kit, and it did not fit. Would have required modification (metal removal) from either the SR1911 (not happening), or to the kit.

Bought from Midway, so returned for full credit unmodified.

If you want a 45 type 22, buy a Kimber 22 at the cost of several Rugers, or buy a MKIII with the plastic grip frame.
