The later OM Supers had the high polish blued look that is so nice,,,!

If it has to be a New Model, look for a pre warning with recessed case heads.
In all honesty, there is no reason to buy a New Model Super when the unconverted 3 screws can be had for the same money.

I have Ruger single actions from "Then to now". My original Ruger Super Black Hawk (OM) had an excellent high polish bright blue, comparable to a fine custom blued firearm.
However, my latest Ruger SS TALO .44 Special CANNOT be faulted for finishing. Ruger did a superb job on this revolver including mechanically. Even the cylinder throats are near perfect and the chambers are amongst the smoothest I have ever seen. What's MUCH more important to me, is that both the early OM SBH and the SS TALO shoot REALLY well.

The NM Flattops have been some of the best products I have seen from Ruger. The finish on the old 3 screws may be better, but the fit generally isn't from what I've seen. Some of those OMs look like they were fitted by a monkey. But I personally, don't consider any SA Ruger to be a finished product the way it comes from the factory. They all need a trigger job and a freespin pawl, at a minimum.

However, the new Flattops (I have the 50th Anniversary .44 Magnum, the .44 Lipsey Special, and the .44 Special TALO edition) have the new alignment pawl. THAT has been a worthy addition! I had my original pawl modified to a free spin pawl in my SS Bisley Black Hawk .45 Colt/.45 ACP Convertible. The free spin pawl is not as good as the new alignment pawl but is sure better than "as issued".
