Around here, Duke is the primary protector of the flock. He's an Akbash just over a year old and weighs in the 140+# range(still growing and filling out). In addition, it wouldn't be wise to mess with the old guy who feeds him if he's anywhere near. The livestock guarding part is inherent but I've also trained him to stay with me in the field, stand over or next to me if I fall, and provide a support if I require assistance in getting up if I do fall. He will insert himself between me and anything that gets close to my person.
