Purple P89?

I found a P89 9mm....owner says it is stainless, but the slide is amost purple...not black like a typical blue finish..

What is this?

The ruger blue guns sometimes look "plum" in color. It is a blue gun really.

Around 200 hundred would be a steel.

Don't get me wrong there are a lot of factors that go into price. I said 200 would be a steal. The cheapest I have paid for a P89 is 260.00.

I have seen them go for a lot more too. I wasn't trying to make you have buyers remorse.

I love the P-guns! What type is it? Does it have a safety?

Dan Wesson frames, Remington 700 bolts, Ruger No1 levers and Ruger SA loading gates all have this habit. I hear different reasons such as improper bluing or that the parts involved are cast - but all include happening as the gun ages. Some like it, some don't - I don''t, but can deal with it on a small part or two. On my DW "pistol pac" revolver I sold the thing because of it, the fellow who bought it was happy as hell with it though.

I'm with 'dsf' ,lots of reasons "why" and lots of folks do NOT like it, I know for the MOST part except for a few times, on "some" Single action Rugers it looks "becoming"..... I know better, that bottom line this anomoly is still a 'defect" and makes the gun look and most likely in many cases be a "reblue" ,nature of the beast and don;t let folks tell you that is "always the case with collectible Rugers", its still a cop out for moving and selling a gun that truly was reblued............
besides that after so many years of use, the "P" seried guns by this time have had LOTS of 'uppers' ( slides) redone, as it is so easy to do..........see them in the local shop, my gunsmith is constantly doing one for this customer or that, cheaper than gtting the whole gun doe, and in the case of the one pictured above, the frame looks 'stainless, and many are 'polymer; so the ONE part that will be done, ( redone) is the slide.........

The frame is aluminium..not stainless and "It is hard-coated for toughness and resistance to wear by a process similar to that employed in the manufacture of the U. S. M16 rifle receiver". per the NRA weapons database.

There is no single model of the P-Series that is offered in both aluminum and fiberglass-reinforced polyurethane. different models, different frames.

That said..it does look like a thin blueing job. interesting none the less.

As noted, the gun above isn't mine. Mine is a p89 and looks more like the image below as far as frame color, which is clearly grey, plumb slide. The website where I got this photo calls this a two tone....

The P guns come in 3 color versions.

KP89 = Stainless
P89 = Blue
P89T = two tone (which is basically the frame of a stainless gun with a blue slide and stainless safety levers.)

I personally don't like the two tone but actually created my own version. Took a blue frame and a stainless slide.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way. Post a pic of yours when you can.

The "plumming" effect has to do with the reaction of the steel alloy to the blueing chemicals and the blueing process. It's been observed for some time on Ruger P-Series blued guns' slides, and on HK P7-Series guns as well.

Major P94/GP100,
That is nice and nondescript. I really like the looks.
I have a stainless P85MkII that I recent "pinched' the slide on and that removed almost all of the play between the slide and frame, enough to actually provide a decent grouping @ 7yds.
Good looking piece.
