box this afternoon. Serial number 140-10200 was shipped July 73 with a brass grip frame in an old model blackhawk box with a sticker on the end. Serial number of gun is on the side of the box. Called Ruger after I bought the gun and got the shipping date and they verified it was shipped with brass grip frame. First old army I've heard of shipped in a blackhawk box. No pios yet, but give me a few days and we'll have a cloudy dry day so I can take pics on the picnic table.

Here's a couple pics I took inside since it rained today.

Gee, sure looks like a pattern is developing:

140-10200
140-10489
140-10516

All three shipping in Blackhawk boxes...

Great guns, guys.

The brass frame old army is a neat gun from a packaging perspective. One can find a BP7-B in all three boxes: the two piece black and red ROA box, a two-piece Blackhawk box with a sticker, and the one piece red and white hinged NM box with a sticker.

Good stuff!!

The brassie in my pic above is 140-10409 and the standard frame gun is 140-11412.

I assume these are BKH45 boxes under the stickers. The only other contemporary 7.5" barrel box was for the BKH31 but the earliest NM BN31 guns were shipped in NM boxes, whereas the early BN45 guns shipped in pasteover OM boxes. I believe there were hundreds of leftover BKH45 boxes and likely none of the BKH31 boxes.

contender, I took lessons from RadicalRod on how to train my dog how to sniff out the Ruger treasurers.

WMG, I can see BKH 45 7 1/2 under the sticker with a strong light.

Pics will be posted shortly.

BTW, here are excerpts from the RENE Ref on these:

Two-piece yellow and black boxes with red/black Old Army labels on the end are known from s/n 140-06833 to 140-11711. Estimated quantities: BP-7 with yellow and black box = 500; BP-7B with yellow and black box = 200;

It did not come with a box. I had this box setting around. Hmmm........perhaps I have the wrong box or perhaps I don't... :D

I have a Brassie that I got ser# 140-11759 with a letter from Ruger stating it was shipped that way. My box is just like the yellow and black boxes on this thread with a red label as well. It does not fall between the numbers stated above. Does that have any meaning? It is about 90 to 95% (closer to 95 IMO), but some bone head painted fluorescent orange on the front blade sight. Other wise it is in very good to almost excellent shape.

:shock Serial numbers must not mean much as to the boxes, I have a 140-09xx with brass frame and it came in a black box with a regular label printed on the end. The higher numbers shown here are in blackhawk boxes...they must have run short...RB
