We met folks selling "Don' Tread on Me" Gadsden flags over the weekend. I should remember from Scouts but don't. Gadsden flag should be below Old Glory's level and .... which side of Old Glory as viewed from the front of our home? Have to make a pole and bracket. Thanks. Don.

“When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the right of the flag of the United States.”

Looks to me like the Gadsden Flag should be displayed to the left of, and perhaps lower than the US flag.

(I think they mean the flag’s left- not the viewer’s)

The flag of the United States must always be at the top except that the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for Navy personnel when conducted by a Naval chaplain on a ship at sea.. http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html

My understanding is that no other flag or banner is placed to the right of the US flag as the flag stands with the POV facing out. This means the US flag is on the left of a line when looking at the flags from a frontal position, or as you would be from the street looking at your house. So the Gadsden flag is on the right of the US flag from that view.

Here's what we did. We THINK I have it right. We think of ourselves as in the house and as "speakers" addressing an audience located at the street. And measured, Old Glory is higher than the Gadsden flag. Correct us if wrong. Thanks. Don

Hi,

As I read the Flag Code, Don, you did it right for placement position, with a little belt and suspenders treatment added by putting Old Glory slightly higher than the Gadsden flag.

Thanks folks. Penny and I have three Old Glory flags or motif object's de art in our front yard, and one in our back. The Gadsden flag is a first of anything different anywhere. Don.

I don't know, that is subject to a number of interpretations.... just like when I mention to people that I've cleaned out the Whitehouse chimneys.... some people get a funny look on their face and try to figure out what I actually mean.

I think this country has "spread a lot of s**t" some good and some bad but you should love it regardless.

Hmm. I thought it was just another hay wagon that unloaded itself when pulled. Wow. Kind of a multi-purpose implement. Honestly it was my father-in-law's. When Penny and I met, it was a rusted rotting hulk on his farm, waiting to be hauled off or dozed under. I asked for it and it was given. I removed the rest of the rotted wood, crafted a large shelf for the inside, shot IH red paint on it, replaced the boards with treated poplar fence boards and turned the sunflowers on it for Penny. Those are her favorite flowers, and I promised her I'd always try to have her sunflowers. The kicker stayed outside our bedroom window until we moved to town, and it came with us. We love it, folks sometimes stop and ask to photograph their children by it when it's decorated for the holidays. We've been approached to sell it a couple times for up to $750.00. Because it's a family thing, the answer was each time "no". American made 1956 New Idea. We like it. It has happy honorable memories tied to it. Don.

Tallbald I hope you didn't take my response as negative toward you I think you are one of the good guys here my weird feeling probley comes from growing up on a dairy farm we used one every day and had to work on them on a regular basis not the most pleasant job in the world most people would run if faced with the task I am the kind of guy that would display one like you have just to get a chuckle from the neighbors and people passing by

Hi Gramps51. Not any worry my friend. You make a valid point. Dad's spreader was used for years by him and his family. In taking it home with me I repurposed it, using it as a palette for something pretty, thought provoking and unique. Like Penny's and my spreader, I too have been re-made during my life into something better than I was in the beginning. Mostly I think because of my wife Penny. Some folks just had to see through the outward build and narrowly confined expectations. The lathe turned sunflowers were the last things my mother Jeanette painted before she died as a 78 year old long term widow. I let her teach me blending of acrylic colors and subtle shading to give depth to paint. Some techniques I already knew while she was teaching me, but I didn't tell her. I preferred to allow her the pleasure of teaching again for likely her last time. She did die in her sleep in a bed in my home, in an apartment built just for her. I found her when I came to her little apartment to make coffee for her on my morning off.
Anyway, our spreader is, rather than any sideways insult, physical representation of a microcosmic story of a man's life. But only those who ask would understand it. Thanks for asking! Don.

I like it! It doesn't get much more American than that, a U.S. Flag on a hard-working farm truck/spreader...It's what this country is about, working hard and making a living!

Much better than seeing the Flag of Islam up there.
