Procedure for tightening the lock-up on a revolver??

I am not attempting this myself. I just want to know the procedure of it---

I have a 1980 Ruger Speed-Six .357 Magnum that has been through several owners and shot a whole bunch. It is beginning to show some signs of a little looseness in the cylinder at the point of lock-up. I have another Speed-Six of about the same era that is extremely tight and would like them both the same in that aspect.

What is the procedure that a gunsmith takes to tighten that lock-up on a revolver? And, is it costly?

If the notches are`nt terribly beat out on the cyl a new cyl. latch & pawl should do it .

Southern Shooter, That depends. If it's a "combination" of things that are making it loose, then a new cylinder latch and pawl will tighten it up "some". If that has already been done along the way, and you have an "excessively" worn cylinder ratchet then that is "another" story altogether! I suggest you take it to a local "competent" gunsmith to have it checked out. Flatgate's "idea" is also a good one for you to "start" to learn all about the Ruger DA six-series revolvers.....................Dick :wink:

....and 'add' to the above, if this gun has gone through a number of owners, what 'abuse & custom' work may have also been done, NOT covered in ANY books...... :roll:
