Next Friday, I am scheduled for a knee Arthroscope/Clean-up. This is a relatively minor outpatient procedure. It is however a regimented process due to the Covid-19. First off, It took 3 months to get the surgical appointment. The provider has severely restricted elective procedures.

Starting Monday:

1) I need to get a Covid test Monday morning.
2) From Monday until Friday I need to remain isolated at home. My wife included.
3) I need to shower with a special medicinal soap for 3 consecutive days prior to surgery.
4) On the day of surgery, my wife is not allowed to accompany me into the hospital. She needs to drop me off at the door and stay in the car or whatever and pick me up at the door when called where I will be sitting in a wheel chair waiting for her.

Seems like an over abundant precaution list. We shall see. Wish me luck!

Good Luck sir! I just had similar knee procedures including fixing a tear and a bone spur done this past Monday.
I also had to do the COVID test
I did not have to isolate
I did have to do the soap thing
My wife was able to see me in, and be in the recovery room after I came to
I did mine at an orthopedic surgery center that might be the difference

Scoping a knee is about as straightforward as it gets. Got mine done about 17 years ago and no subsequent issues. Hope it all goes well for you.

The special soap isn't new. I had to do that before my heart surgery. It's just one more step to prevent infection. A pretty good idea in my opinion.

Prayers up for a good outcome.

I pray peace and blessing over this procedure, this week, and perspective shifts that it may bring!

If your medical problem was only more serious they’d get you right in.

With mine, it was Thursday about 4:00 p.m. ..... Doctor says, “yep, that’s a tumor that needs to come out”. Went 1 floor down to give blood and urine, get an EKG and have COVID test. Surgery was 8:30 a.m. the next day. Much quicker than yours!

Good luck with yours, I pray it ends up as successful as mine did.

I don’t remember about the tumor. Hope you are doing well.

My knee is arthritic. So, all they are doing is trimming some torn meniscus and any other small repairs that may be needed. Thanks for the well wishes.

that special soap thing is fairly universal
I'm going to visit Daughter today before she has foot surgery 3/19. Didn't want to have "a possible exposure" within 2 weeks of the surgery but today was the only opportunity.

Good luck with the surgery.

And to all who have ANY surgery,, or medical procedures may the Good Lord watch over you, and heal you quickly!

Hospital Acquired Infections are no joke. I fully understand the recommended precautions.

Two of my friends have contracted and died from HAI like MERSA. Prepping before admission can help with reducing such but in the end it's up to the hospital to maintain sanitary conditions.

Wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery (not too speedy, though, follow Dr's orders).

Had knee replacement last August. Covid test three days prior, then isolation at home. Night before surgery - shower, then wipe down with three "industrial grade" antiseptic wipes, head to toe. They burned like seven hells, especially the naughty bits! After arriving at the hospital, I had to repeat this procedure. Ouch! Had the surgery on a Thursday, home on Friday.

When I had my right knee replaced, two years prior, I had to do that same wipe-down routine, so it must not have been covid-related.

This past December I found I needed a different pacemaker the VA put me on the schedule and three weeks later it was done. No covid test needed.

Good luck, Dave! I'll want to know all about it because my knee Dr. said a cleanup of my left knee is next if fluid builds up behind it again.

Good luck Helliman. Anymore knee surgery is “routine”. Prayers sent. A surgeon I worked with asked me the definition of major surgery. I replied, it is when you go into the large cavities of the body, head, chest, and abdomen. The Dr said, technically you are correct. From the patients view, any surgery on them is major surgery! TOUCHE’!!!

Knees are pretty common for guys as we age. Years of work and play have taken their toll.

I wonder if kids today will have fewer issues as they rarely play outside and think all should just be handed to them. Hard to find one willing to work.

Same amount of issues just different issues, there will be a lot more Butt Bone replacements in the future.

No worries here. It’s the first time I’ve mentioned it on the forum. 2020 was quite a ride.

Yes, I’m all healed up. Tumor removed, chemo was successful although really inconvenient LOL. Cancer free.

Keep the faith ..... you’ll do fine!

Let's prove 'em wrong. We'll go shooting Wednesday. Take an extra shower on Thursday, and they'll never know the difference.
