Prayers for Santa Rosa

A terrible tragedy is unfolding up in Northern California... Entire neighborhoods are being destroyed, and I just heard the Kaiser hospital is going up in smoke too. :shock:

I'm sure they could use our prayers... Some of these neighborhoods are going up so fast that people are literally running for their lives. Lucky to get out with their shoes.

I live in San Francisco and my car was covered with fly ash this morning. Got some friends volunteering at animal shelters up there.

Just read about a couple who died, trapped by the fire. Married 75 years, he was 100, she 99. They died together in their home, unable to escape.

Man o man! Them libs really pi$$ed off God? I have fought forest fires since I was in my teens. This happens in California year after year. WHY! I would like to see before and after shots of these homes. Forestry here has us build a Greenway around our homes. In Moreno Valley, California people had gravel and cactus yards-nothing to burn. How about metal roofs instead of shingles? Surely there is something they can do to mitigate these fires.

What a shame. I lived in Santa Rosa in 1951-52 while my Dad was flying in B-29s over Korea. When Dad came in back 3-52 we moved to Travis AFB while he flew in B-36s
I lived two blocks off main street behind the Library and three blocks from the hobby shop. Spent a lot of time building model planes. I would also walk to the Naval Air Station to watch the Corsairs and Panthers.

Those fires look unbelievably bad on the news. I can't imagine what they must be like. Prayers for the whole region.

Hi,

My sister's down here for a couple of days: left Mendocino County (CA) Sunday morning just before the fires got close. She leaves her phone on at night and got the robocall about 3 a.m. yesterday, from Sheriff's Dept to prepare to evacuate. Had a hard time finding someone with their phone on at that hour to get the message to my brother in law. As of now, he's already gotten all the "grab it and go" stuff out of the house pending a full evacuation order of Redwood Valley. My nephew and his family have been evacuated--they live about a half mile downwind of the flames and a mile and a half away from the folks, upwind, so nobody's out of the woods yet. Sis says whole neighborhood where she lived before they built this house is gone, and daughter in law has a good friend who lost her house.

Prayers for all up there are appreciated.

I have sat there and watched a forest fire progress, tree tops like candles, can only pray for those folks, Cal Air has a big job.

If forests and wild areas were managed in the right way and not by environmental nut jobs this sort of thing would not be as bad. Everything the left touches it ruins. Privately owned forest land used for timber production are less likely to experience this sort of tragedy.
Sorry for the innocent people being hurt and I hope they make it out safely.

I saw where they have started using the 747 Tanker to fight the fires; Drops 20,000 gallons in a single mile long pass and can make 6-8 trips a day.

Hi,

Here's a short story from their local paper and a bunch of pictures from my sister's neighborhood (Redwood Valley--Santa Rosa where the others were shot is about an hour south of her.) The story mentions West Road and the first picture in the series is probably less than a mile in a straight line from her current house. I'm guessing it's within just a quarter mile of her previous one, which was destroyed.
