Please tell me about this Old Model Single Six

Sorry for the crappy picture. I took a quick shot with my phone at the gunshop.

This Ruger has been sitting in the case for a few weeks now. I never really looked at it until today. It is an Old Model, not converted, with some apparently aftermarket grips. I honestly thought it was a new gun until I looked closely at it. The serial number is 44xxx.

Is this an RSS4 or RSS5, or something else altogether?

Is is worth anywhere close to the asking price of $450? There is no box.

What, exactly, does it say on the left side of the frame, just below the cylinder.

It appears to have a 6-1/2" barrel (measured from the end of the barrel to the front face of the cylinder) . . . correct?

Yep, that's what it says. I'm not sure of the barrel length.

I searched "RSSM" and have been reading threads, but mainly I'd like to know if its a collectible or a shooter. Is it rare, and is it worth $450?

Sorry, I know its hard to tell from a cell phone picture. I'll be back in the shop tomorrow - anything I should look for?

Something is amiss here. 6-1/2" Single-Sixes weren't made until #300000 in July 1959 (but those were marked .22 Mag. on the frame). If your gun is truly serial numbered in the 44xxx range then the barrel has probably been changed from a 5-1/2".
I also see a straight slot ejector housing which did not appear until 1959.
So...a 6-1/2" Single-Six with that frame marking would not have appeared until about #340100 in October or November 1962.

Yes...44xxxx (six digit serial number) would explain it.

I'm guessing the serial number is 344xxx. Unless the barrel and ejector rod housing has been changed.

IMHO! It is a good old gun! Is it a collectable rare gun NO it should have the 22 Magnum cylinder also. It will be a great shooter & one of the more common RSS made.

I agree with the guys above, something is "amiss" wrong numbers OR rebarreled....parts gun, a shooter, way too high at that price........if it was a #44,xxx range ( 5 digits) it should have a flat loading gate also.......
