Considering that any comment I make on that subject would be tempered by the comment of a fine upstanding example of an LEO when my friend committed suicide in Chicago it would probably be best I not comment on that subject.

My thoughts exactly!
I am not a LEO and don't claim to be an expert but with all the sightings and numerous articles they've found that would have his scent I thought he'd have been caught by now!

Only problem is...
they have been using dogs and they haven't been able to find him either.

I have wonder if it is hunting season there and some local is using the activity to run deer to him. The lady in question saw the guy and wanted it to be him and her mind filled in the blanks from there. Since the LEO's are sure he can't get away they are willing to use that bit of tunnel vision to justify their own tunnel vision.

I think it's more likely he is in either California or perhaps Texas on some beach hitting on peroxide addled bimbos than running around the woods evading a couple hundred men and dogs. Despite my low opinion of my brother in law and some of his co-workers there isn't going to be a hundred or so police and all of them be quite that incompetent.

Another spotting, I have to wonder if he's not taking shelter in that school somehow... Oh wait, it can't happen, a school would be a gun free zone.
I thought you were sure he was taking it easy in Florida? http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=211761
My guess is he will be caught Oct. 24. :D

I still do, that was an ironic statement. An article of literary license. Sorry to have confused you. I will make notes for you in the future.

It has been estimated to have cost 6-7 million for this manhunt so far here in Pa. That does not include the loss that local business's have incurred. They have used dogs but claim they lose the trail when he crosses or uses the streams to move. Upwards of 1,000 of officers have been involved in this manhunt targeting a 5 square mile area. Seems to be more questions than answers as the weeks go by. It seems when costs and tactics are questioned a new sighting or clue is brought to light. I hope they catch this scumbag soon but I believe his abilities were underestimate, had this well planned, and is in another state watching this play out. I think he will eventually make a mistake and get caught but I don't believe it will be anytime soon or here in Pa.

They did close hunting season in the targeted area several weeks ago. They have lifted that ban with the exception of a couple of local townships. They are asking hunters to wear orange if hunting.

Just released, Leo manpower is being cut by 80%, keeping approximately 200 officers on the hunt.

My first thought also when I read the article. The woman 'thought' it was him. She sees a hunter with a dark camo suit, face paint, and a rifle and as you said; 'fills in the blanks'. If this guy is good enough to hide this long he is also good enough to NOT be around anymore.

At least the reasonable person would hope he is long gone...

Consider this, if a person can read books and play "paintball" and gain enough skills to successfully hide from between 500 to a thousand LEO in a relatively small area what hope would the citizen have against a determined to do evil para military group that has actually trained?

Does any of this seem strangely familiar to the man hunt for Eric Rudolph some years back?

Let's not go there, I'm sure these guys are very good at what they are trained to do... find evidence, fill out paperwork and serve the occasional warrant. In this case they are being put in a situation far beyond their training and shouldn't be judged by their performance in it.

My last unit was a Recon Cavalry Troop. To prove a point I and one other person told some recently trained 'newbees' that we would tell them where we were going and if they would give us 30 minutes and then come looking, that they would never find us. I actually had one 'looker' stand on my hand and he never saw me. After they passed us by we returned to our base area and awaited their return. Now, those are guys trained to 'seek and see' and they failed to find the targets; us. I doubt that the police have that type training. I am not too surprised that the 'bad guy' is still on the loose.

Let's not go there ....

Why not ? I live about 20 minutes from where this is all going on. I SEE the caliber of people riding up and down the roads in their SWAT vehicles. I've SEEN the 'command posts' where all the fat overweight 'commanders' walk around with guns strapped to their thighs and their camo fatigues on playing army. They look like that fat guy who was impersonating a military hero a while back.

1000 'cops' ... Dozens of tracker dogs, multiple professional 'trackers', ... Regular 'sightings' of this guy, helicopters in the air at all times of the day, a million and then some dollars a week, and they can't get this guy ? Give me a break ... I guess as a kid he was just really good at hide and seek.

To top it all off, the 'authorities' announce that they're 'closing in on him' at least once a week, and then more weeks go by ... And you don't think they're completely and utterly incompetent ?

Please .... The guy is long gone.

Again, I would only judge these people on the performance of what they are trained to do. These are civilians that have taken on a job they are completely unprepared for. They are foolish to let their egos get in the way of their common sense, I'll admit, but I cannot in good conscience call them incompetent their civilian work by this incident.

I will agree the guy is long gone and no doubt insufferably pleased with himself every time one of these stories hit the news.

As for the multiple sightings... The brain is a marvelous instrument until allowed to go out of calibration. The story is told that in ancient times here in Rensselaer a very bored newspaper employee wrote & published a opinion piece on the treatment of a non-existent kangaroo loose in the vicinity of the park. Within a week there were "sightings" of this kangaroo including one gentleman that submitted pictures of it's "tracks." I'm told it took five years for the rumor to finally die out. Unless this guy from Pennsylvania should happen to make a mistake that falls under normal police job description and gets himself caught I suspect there will be rumors, sightings, found campsites and in woods interaction with the guy twenty or thirty years from now.

Recent development: The search has been moved to the Mount Pocono area, more than 12 miles away from the Canadensis area where Frein was supposed to be hiding. I know the area, and it has hundreds of houses and at least three golf courses. Maybe Frein is hiding in one of those houses, watching TV in a warm room while the cops beat the bushes trying to flush him like a quail.

At least the tunnel vision is widening a little at least. My greatest concern is the continuing efforts being publicized as they are will encourage a copycat somewhere else. I'm just thankful the guy doesn't have the audacity to frequent a bar close to a police station and pay his tab with a credit card. Or worse, steal one of the cruisers or SUV's while the LEO's are in the woods looking for him. The former would pretty much destroy any credibility of the search in progress and the latter raise him to folk hero status in far too many circles.

Hopefully the guy will take pity on them before the snow falls and send the local newspaper an e-mail with a pic of him on the beach with a couple of bimbos and the message "tell the PSP wish they were here." Then again, that could easily raise him to folk hero status as well. :(
